COUNTDOWN TO THE BRAIN
« on: September 16, 2007, 09:03:34 PM »

Well, you've read the notes, the notes were brainy, and now it is time for you to post until the brainy cows come home - they're all coming to see The Brain From Planet X - if you haven't got your tix, what are you waiting for?

Have a little writing to do and then I must head downstairs and go to bed.

Good night!

And, again, I did not watch the Emmys...

Instead I went to see The Musical in Mufti presentation of Zorba at The York Theatre.  In short, a beautiful presentation of a beautiful show.  This was the first of their fall series which happens to be devoted to shows with book by Joseph Stein, and it was a nice way to start the series.

The cast featured some of bk's "regulars" - Crista Moore (The Widow) and Emily Skinner (The Leader) - as well as Jeff McCarthy (Zorba) and Beth Fowler (Hortense).

Until tonight, I was only familiar with some of the music from the show via casual listens to the OCR and the material incorporated into And the World Goes Round.  I was actually surprised at how touching some of the songs were - I loved "The Butterfly".

And since it was the closing performance, there were many see-lebrities in attendance: John Kander, Joseph Stein, Patrick Vaccariello, Peter Filichia, etc., etc, etc.  It was great seeing Mr. Kander again, and he's back into "work" mode after taking three months off.  -He said it was his first real vacation in years.

bk  - As for Chinese food.... I do like West Side Cottage, but I'll have to take you down to Grand Sichuan in Chelsea sometime.  Wonderful food - you can even pick frozen of fresh(!) chicken for your dishes.

I'm also very fond of Dim Sum Go Go in Chinatown - they don't have carts rolling around the dining room.  They make each dim sum fresh in the kitchen.  Quite good.

And there are a few other places in Chinatown I could take you too if you're feeling adventurous.  ;)

I often list "The Butterfly" as one of my favourite K & E songs.

"Zorba" is one musical I would like to see as a film. I would even like to see a new film - in colour.   The source material is excellent.

I read "cats rolling around the dining room".  I do not care for chinese food - and especially not in bed.  My tastes go west to Thai, Malay, and Indian.

In other news...

Today was the first time I left Mary Poppins rehearsal, and did not feel insecure, inadequate or otherwise discouraged.  There are still parts of the show where I feel like I'm swimming upstream as it were, but... I actually got teary-eyed during "Feed the Birds".  -And the Dance Captain asked me how soon would I be starting in the pit.  I guess I really don't suck after all.  :)

Well, now that I've caught up on e-mails - almost - after being out all day, I believe it's time for bed.  I'm playing auditions tomorrow for Shrek, so it should be a fun day.

Ho-Ho's on West 50th between 6th and 7th was also a nice place, though not as upscale as Dish of salt, but I can't find hide nor hair of that place on the internet, either.

We dont have a lot of quality Chinese restaurants in Fargo and I am only lukewarm on the buffets. However we do have a good Korean/Japanese restaurant and a Thai restaurant that is excellent.

The best Chinese food I had was when i visited rellies in Seattle and we went to HoHo in Chinatown. Great food... I had my first experience eating squid. I loved the crackling rice.

Thanks td, Jane, Dakota, Tomovoz and Singdaw for the audition vibes!  Last night was just a repeat of the same as the day before, so I only read two other little scenes.  There were a lot more people there, so that was good.  I'm pretty sure I'll be in the show...in what part(s)?  I have no idea. :)
