The news about Richard is really heartbreaking.  I usually saw him and his partner whenver they came to a BK event in Manhattan.  He was a lovely gentleman and I will miss him.

In the few experiences I had reading his contributions to various websites, he always comported himself in that manner.  It's a name I always think of with respect.

From JeanneI haven't dared to watch them for fear of that happening.  Her last book turned me off & I don't know if I'll return to the series.

I've seen several of the Elizabeth George adaptations on PBS. The screenwriters/producers took great liberties: the two main characters look considerably different on the screen than in print. Full-length novels were reduced to 90 minutes and so cut up that, in each case, I had trouble following the story, despite having read--and remembered--the book. Ms George was clearly disturbed over her lack of control. Other fans of the books I've spoken to expressed their displeasure, as well. I have real difficulty understanding why PBS would do this, when most of both Mystery! and Masterpiece Theatre is so well done.

I awoke to the very sad news that Richard Valley, my pal and publisher of Scarlet Street lost his battle with the cancer he's been fighting for the last couple of year.  RIP, dear Richard.

I wish to add my condolences to all who lost a friend.

Oh, dear! *eyes watering.* I was never a horror movie fan, but I remember Richard dearly from Saturday nights at Eighty-Eights. I will always think of him blowing a train whistle and waving a candle (imitating a track worker) when we sang "On the Twentieth Century." (No, it's not a requirement that I mention Eighty-Eights every third post, but it sure seems that way, don't it?)

Please forward my love and condolences to his loved ones.

Sorry to hear about Richard Valley.  I only met him once, at my first HHW gathering, the Joe Allen dinner following BK's NYC signing for Writer's Block.  He shared stories of acting in the outdoor drama not far from here.

BK, I am devastated to hear about Richard.  I remember our dinner with him and his partner Tom shortly before I left LA.  Oddly enough, I just last week posted on The Scarlet Street site for the first time in quite awhile.  A lovely man!

DR Charles - We watched the first four playlets from "Tonight at 8.30" last night.  Very enjoyable.  I am looking forward to all the NC set contains.  I'd not seen any version of "Family Album" before (have a few scenes on record) - it was delightful.

So anyway, today's topic:

CD PLAYER:
Joe Nichols (various)
Josh Groban - Noel
Bruce Springsteen - Magic

DVD PLAYER:
HEROES - Season One - Disc Six
earlier this week, a mini David Boreanaz festival of THESE GIRLS and MR. FIX IT, the former feature a helluva lot more of David Boreanaz than I ever thought I'd see in my lifetime and is a horrible inie film; the latter is an alright comedy with a very blonde Boreanaz.
Soon to be in the dvd player - POLTERGEIST and/or TWILIGHT ZONE: THE MOVIE.

Thank you SO much! I forgot that I had forgotten!   ::)

I've written myself a post-it and put it on my sweater so I'll remember to set the DVR when I go back downstairs.

Very sad to read about RIchard Valley. I did so enjoy his write-ups on the Rathbone/Holmes films in the booklets that came with the remastered DVD releases. After I read those, I wished then that I could have known Richard. My deepest sympathy goes to his life partner.

I began my afternoon of viewing by finishing the Judy Garland Songbook. It's a lovely idea and well executed. And watching those clips made me want to go back and watch every single movie of hers that I own. (In some cases, the released DVDs look far superior to the clips they used in the Songbook. I'm thinking particularly of THE HARVEY GIRLS and ZIEGFELD FOLLIES.)

Next, I watched the first three episodes of NCIS in the fourth season box set. I'm not a regular viewer of the show (I've maybe watched two episodes since it's been on), so I'm learning about the regular characters pretty much on-the-job.

The tone of this is the lightest of all the CBS crime procedurals. They joke and kid with each other a lot. None of the three cases I watched this afternoon offered great mysteries, and in the two that were actual whodunits, I guessed both cuplrits effortlessly.

Hal Holbrook was the major guest star on one of the episodes I watched.

I ended the afternoon by skimming through today's AS THE WORLD TURNS. Yes, much ado with the gay characters.

Media Check:

In my CD player at work:  Lewis Black: "The Carnegie Hall Performance" and Charles Mingus: "Tijuana Moods" (both from the library); Pink Martini: "Hey Eugene!" and Megan Mullally & SMP: "Free Again!"

In my DVD player:  The Dresden Files: The Complete First Season (from the library) and The Manhattan Tranfer: "The Christmas Concert" (the one I got signed!).

I have a whole bunch of shows on my DVR, but hopefully I'll eventually get to them.  I'll probably need to copy some of them to VHS tapes to make room for more stuff yet to be recorded on the DVR.  It just never ends!

That's it for now. :D

I'm a regular fan, and it's not for the mysteries, it's for the ensemble cast. For the show, it's not the goal, it's the journey.

What on earth has happened to DR singdaw?  He's hardly posted at all the past 24 hours.

Well, last night was Thursday, my regular choir choir rehearsal night.

As for the rest...since several DRs have commented about it, I'm trying to spend my work time doing mainly work.  :)
