Well, last night was Thursday, my regular choir choir rehearsal night.

As for the rest...since several DRs have commented about it, I'm trying to spend my work time doing mainly work.  :)

Is that manly or mainly work?

I just read that the wonderfully funny Simon Pegg (HOT FUZZ, SHAUN OF THE DEAD) has been signed to play Scotty in the movie of STAR TREK - THE EARLY YEARS.

OK. I'm heading down now to mop that awful kitchen floor and then it'll be back to the TV for more NCIS and probably MY NAME IS EARL/30 ROCK before prime time begins.

Good Afternoon!  Good Evening!

Well, the WiFi signal in Bryant Park kept dropping in and out, so... And by that time it was time to head back for the afternoon session, so...  -That's what happened.  Just FYI... If you cared to know.  ;)

And Anton Yelchin (Bryd in HUFF) as Checkov.

And I did not head up to Levain to get some a "bag of love" after my auditions were done today.  With the drop in temps, a nice hot bowl of soup was more the order of the day.

And, yes, we indeed have a busy afternoon - about 130 Men, so about 280 in total for the day.  Although it was nice to get through almost every one who had signed up (as per Equity Chorus Call procedures), due to the semi-surprisingly large turnout, we had to request that each person only sing 8 bars.  Yes, that's usually enough to tell if a person can sing, but, man can some of those 8 bar cuts be short(!).  -Of course, there were a few people who just kept on singing after the designated 8 bars... And singing... And singing...  In fact, I stopped twice in the middle of one woman's piece since I thought she was done... twice.  20 bars later, when she came to the piano to pick up her music, she commented to me, "Oh, I know that song is hard to play.."  -No, you wrote "STOP" in the music so I stopped.  (And she written in "STOP" at one place.)  -And we told everyone to prepare 8 bars."  In any case...

I had a wonderful time today in the room with the folks from Binder Casting and the ever-amazing and uber-talented Rob Berman - who was back from Chicago after getting the new production of Passion open there (with Ana Gasteyer).

I hope it was a "nutritious" choice!

And since we were done around 4:30 - I was thinking we were going to end around 5:30, I went ahead and headed back uptown just to take a nice break from all the crazy midtown energy.  -And also to put on some warmer clothes.  -It really is cold(er) outside.  55 degrees in Central Park right now according to weather.com.

The NY Times reviews the DVD of the show Naked Boys Singing:

A slight "correction"... The review is of the current theatrical release of "Naked Boys Singing".  -And it happens to be premiering right in the same theatre complex that "Sacco & Vanzetti" premiered in here in NYC, the Quad Cinemas.

bk - you and I seem to have had the same experiences with POLTERGEIST and TWILIGHT ZONE: THE MOVIE!  Although I don't have the dvds yet - tonight on my shopping trip - I've always seen the brilliance of the former and the could-have-been of the latter.
One of my craziest memories of TZ: THE MOVIE is cheering a little too loudly when I heard Jennifer Warnes' voice emanating from the jukebox at the start of the Vic Morrow segment, the title tune "Nights are Forever" is, I guess, a guilty pleasure for me.  It's one of those songs which isn't really memorable in the film itself, not available (I don't think) on any commercial cd, nor on any Warnes compilation - though it was available on vinyl - also as a twelve-inch remixed single.

I once dated a twelve-inch remixed single (and it wasn't the remix that attracted me).

And to round out my listening for the week...

Her free-improvisations continue to astound and entertain me.  -And she's now taking requests on her website too!

And...

-This is a collection of Cabaret Songs by William Bolcom, Arnold Schoenberd and Erik Satie.  A cool recording debut on DG for a very cool voice.

Oct. 12: Camels and their riders break from the gate to start the sixth race at the Harold Park Paceway in Sydney. The novelty races were instigated after Australia's New South Wales state suspended horse racing after an outbreak of equine influenza.

Note: They use mainly women jockeys - maybe Miss Karen is on her way :)

'tis a sad, sad day. . .
Inevitable, yes, but devastating nonetheless.
Last night, I received a trans-atlantic/pacific call from Down Under apprising me of the situation with Richard Valley.
