As for tonight's TV viewing:

"Ugly Betty" - Fun, Fun, Fun.  And I still have a crush on Victor Garber.  ;)

"Grey's Anatomy" - Good, not great.  Although some surprises tonight.

"Mad Men" - It was the season finale, and what a season finale!  I can't wait for next season!

LITTLE KNOWN FACT:

"Stewardesses" is the longest word in English that can be typed with only the left hand.

Unfortunately, that does not do our DR Jane any good.

You poor dear!

DR MATTH - Fanny Brice singing "Cooking Breakfast for the One I Love" is available on Nipper's Hits of the 30's, a CD I bought for pre show music for THE SUNSHINE BOYS.

There are two volumes from the 30's and one from the 20's - some of your songs may be on these.

Here is the link to the first one.  I love it!!   ;D

Thank you DR Jrand. I will definitely check out that link in a few minutes.

I listened to two other commentaries on UNDER THE VOLCANO to begin my evening. One was by the screenwriters who only talked during six scenes of the film. The other was a pieced-together commentary with three of the producers. Very interesting.

Don't ask for a break! DR Jane didn't ask for one and got TWO!

Seriously, DR Jane, I'm so sorry about your accident and hope you're not in too much distress for too long.

WOW! The weather just said we have had 14.68 inches more inches of rain than normal this year...it is terribly soggy. We may get to see the sun tomorrow for the first time in a week.

Next, I watched last night's LIFE. I liked the murder story and was really fooled by what was going on.

I know the story arc of the show is the main character discovering who commited the crime he was sent to prison for. I've seen two of the four aired episodes, and those scenes now totally lost me. I wonder if it's a good idea to keep persuing this. Maybe they ought to just solve the case and let the show have these closed-ended mysteries each week.

UGLY BETTY had a lot of unpleasantness tonight. Sure, that keeps things stirred up, but I was disappointed in the Henry story, very unhappy with the turn in Justin's story (though I'm assuming this mood swing will be temporary), but I was tickled by Amanda's search for her father.

I agree about Victor Garber. And I think he's been on a bit of a diet. He looked very svelt tonight.

Well... I'm playing Mary Poppins auditions tomorrow morning from 10:00-1:00... And then MP rehearsal from 1:15-5:00... And then I may be sitting in the show again tomorrow night.  So.... And I also want to get a short run in on the treadmill tomorrow morning before heading into midtown, so...

Goodnight.

I would love to see some sunshine also... It has been cloudy for a better part of a week here.

GREY'S ANATOMY. More unhappiness. I kind of squirmed through both BETTY and GREY'S tonight.

And I got VERY angry with Adele tonight. That was such a poorly written sequence and NO reason for her to hold a grudge against her (estranged) husband.

I watched VIVA LAUGHLIN tonight. Not nearly as awful as many reviewers have pegged it, but I can't see it catching on. Melanie Griffith was simply awful on the show, but the men were gorgeous. Great eye candy if nothing else.

TOMOVOZ,
I have a new favorite mini-series, LILIES. It's about three sisters living in Liverpool just after WWI. I watched the first episode tonight and immediately fell in love with it. The accents are a bit thick, but everything else is great and so much fun!

Others here may enjoy it, too. Jane? Ginny?

BTW, I LOVED BRIDES OF CHRIST!

It was a deaf physicist that invented the modem for the deaf and it led to the early development of the TTY/TDD

Many of the text shorthands come from the deaf....

TTYL
CYA
LOL

and so forth. Many shorthands for texting and chatting on the net came from the Deaf community.

Little known fact:
If a statue in the park of a person on a horse has both front legs in the air, the person died in battle; if the horse has one front leg in the air, the person died as a result of wounds received in battle; if the horse has all four legs on the ground, the person died of natural causes. (note: if the rider's head is up the horse's rear, the rider died a politician.)
