As one of my novelist classmates stated, "The men we write about don't exist." Maybe the women they write about don't exist, either.

But knowing the Vikes, they will choke in the playoffs

Good luck! It's fun when your team is in the playoffs. You played the Giants - Eli Manning - that was a sweet win. I think (and hope) it's Green Bay's year. Maybe Brett will retire (not that I want him to but I think its time).

The Steelers are playing really bad. It's hard to watch ... but I do. We had two easy games -- Jets and Dolphins -- we lost one, and barely escaped a loss last night. Sad. Next week we play Cincinnati and the following week it's New England. I'm preparing myself for two losses ... oh well ... hopefully I'll be wrong.

DRs, do any of you have a CD of any version of "A MY NAME IS ALICE with the number "All-girl Band?" If so, can you send me an mp3 file of the number?

Thanks!

It's waay too unreal for me! Everyone is gorgeous, strong, rich, etc.
Maybe my interest in quirky romances is a backlash against this Harlequin stuff.

Same here....

To me it is much more fun writing a character that has elements of people you know. It makes them more real.

I like the more quirky and gritty stuff

MattH, I would put up Mr. Vic Seipke (right) agains any of today's bodybuilders, but I know what you mean.

What a lot of these old timers have told me is that bodybuilding is so different now then it was in their day...so many of the guys now are way too big due to the drugs that have  became increasingly available since the late 60s...rather then creating a work of art, as some of the guys of old were doing, many of those now-a-days are trying to be bigger then the next guy.

Clarence Ross (below) is another fine example of one of the guys from the 1940s who, to me, had a perfect figure....

Clarence, and Harold, and Steve Reeves, and the others didn't have the fancy machinery and the drugs that they have today...and many of them didn't even have any equipment when they began...they just improvised with cans full of cement, or rocks, or pieces of furniture or whatever was on hand when they were starting out. It was a lot of work, but they sure did (and still do) enjoy it.

I have to run .... lots of errands today.

I agree with DR DakotaCelt and DR Jeanne re: Harlequin romance novels. They are difficult to read. I'm not a 'soap' person either.

In fact I do find it ironic that in sports (bodybuilding, football, baseball, etc), which are supposed to be "health" oriented,  and that drugs are so prelevant in, and that many of these guys and gals will die way too young.

And speaking of Jeff Richards, I watched him last night on an episode of THE MILLIONAIRE which also featured Paul Picerni and Jean Willes.

I have decided that THE MILLIONAIRE is one of THE best shows of the golden age of television....and that is a good thing, since I have around 137 episodes on DVDr to watch.

Think you could write a harlequin romance, Bruce? Seriously, I bet you could do a great parody.

Some soaps in the past are far better written than many of the harlequins.

Soaps are hit and miss with me and some eras are better than others.

One soap I hated with a passion: PASSIONS!

Actually the time period that the soaps had the best writing was the late 1980s and early 1990s.

Some of them have gone down the tube since, big time!

Bruce's parody would be downright entertaining...

Soapdish is an interesting parody on the soaps

Yesterday, Julieanne and I drove up to Trader Joe's in Cincinnati to supply our annual Christmas party (Big as ever, BK...).  Though wines are a little more expensive here than in California; it almost felt like I was back in LA...I realize Trader Joe's is one of those things I miss, although as it's only an hour or so away...I don't have to miss it too much.

From Jeanne
Quote
Oh, Jane, a really memory test! I vaguely recall BK taking me to a record store on the south side of Pico, east of .....well east of Westwood. East of Rancho Park.

The record store I’m thinking of is long gone.  It would have been west of Rancho Park (my second home as a child) and east of Westwood.  On the other hand, my memory could be completely off and it was elsewhere.  I should really ask my brother if he remembers.

GOOD LUCK AT THE DENTIST!
