I love most of Chaplin's silent films, and also most of Harold Lloyd and Keaton.  Sunrise is great, and there are a couple of Von Sternberg silents that are visually wonderful.  Sorry to say I've never gotten into Griffith, so I may have to reinvestigate those at some point - De Mille, too.  The Wind was very good.

Dakota, I agree with FJL as to the order of reactions to losses, and since your co-workers hardly acknowledged the loss of a spouse I wouldn’t expect much from them.  They could at least express their condolences & I’m very sorry you have to work with such thoughtless people.  I can only hope it is thoughtlessness & not lack of caring.

As for the students, whom are likely younger, they may not understand the loss of a parent and are still at the awkward age to express their sympathy-just my guess not knowing the situations.

As difficult as this time is for you, I think how lucky you have been to have a father you love dearly & to have spent quality time with him over the last months.

Favorite silent movies are:

Berlin
Metropolis
Piccadilly
Sunrise

I don't remember what the earliest silent movies were that I've seen.  I remember watching movies of Buster Keaton, Charlie Chaplin and Harold Lloyd, but I don't remember any specific titles.

Good Afternoon!

Back from the gym... I really should not have stayed away from it last week... :-\... But at least I went today.  :)

And now I have to get ready to head in to spend some time with some Young Simbas.  -And, no, that is not a euphemism.

JMK - I was a little shocked at first (as in, did I really say that?  :) ), but you did make me laugh on a subject that i find very serious, so kudos to you!

I was just doing a little riff on those old Mad magazine parodies of movie/theater reviews, where the original review was awful and they'd pull three words to make it sound great.  Sorry if I shocked you.  :)

Some political incorrectness of my own for FJL to take out of context department  ;D:     I know this will probably offend some, but I find it divine justice of some sort that what started this whole (admittedly horrible) shooting spree at Ted Haggard's former church was the church not allowing the homeless (yet armed) man to stay there during a storm.  "No room at the inn," indeed.

Feel good vibes to DR Ron!!

It's over.

It's done.

I survived.

I was well-tended (and at those prices, I should have been) and comfortable.  I'm a bit worse for the wear right now, though, as I hoped I'd be enjoying some peppermint bark.  Instead, I'm going to have soup and sandwich.

MAJOR THANKS to all who sent me vibes.  It no doubt helped immensely!

I hope DR Ron Pulliams' root canal is going as well as Matt H's did.

It didn't sound like Vixmom's went as well as Matt's. I hope she is feeling better today.

Good golly.  Are you telling me that vixmom was getting a root canal today, too?   Poor baby!

In other news, we just passed a total of 400,000 postings on this board - quite a number for such an upstart little site.

I think we've gone beyond "upstart site"....how about the "feisty little site that COULD"!!!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY MICHAEL BARNUM

John Abrams & friend

Thank you Michael Shayne...I do believe John is trying to hide that little trollop from me so that I won't be jealous. I am pretty sure that is what he is doing.

Hi all!

I'm glad to read that DR Ron didn't have such a hard time with the root canel after all.

I remember how worried I was when I had one a few years back but all of you told me not to sweat it and you were right!  :)

I didn't catch that DR Vixmom was having one as well.  I'm so sorry to hear that and am sending her giant vibes for a speedy recovery!

I returned home to find all kinds of cards in my mail box!

Thank you DR Jane and MBarnum for the cards!  And thank you, DR TomovOz for the lovely Calendar of wild flowers!

I guess I should also mention I received my first issue of the AARP magazine since I am now a member (being old enough to join now)    Sigh. ;)
