Usually something by Paul Weston, Jackie Gleason, or Anup Jalota.

I like Leroy Anderson's Sleigh Ride -- without the lyrics.

MB, did you know there are some really nice Weston compilations out (2 LPs on one CD) on Collectors Choice, IIRC.

I always amuse myself thinking about the scenarios that generated the ever-changing, intriguing quotations that appear under DRs DearReaderLaura and Sandra's posts!  :)

DR Donna can't illustrate Day 6's gift.  After all, this is a family site.

5 Golden Rings refers to the first Five Books of the Old Testament, the "Pentateuch", which gives the history of man's fall from grace.
6 Geese A-laying refers to the six days of creation
7 Swans A-swimming refers to the seven gifts of the Holy Spirit, the seven sacraments
8 Maids A-milking refers to the eight beatitudes
9 Ladies Dancing refers to the nine Fruits of the Holy Spirit
10 Lords A-leaping refers to the ten commandments
11 Pipers Piping refers to the eleven faithful apostles
12 Drummers Drumming refers to the twelve points of doctrine in the Apostle's Creed

I heard what started out to be a splendid arrangement of "12 Days" last night, sung I think by Roger Whitaker (it sounded like him anyway).  It was great until they got to 9 and 10, when it all fell apart in an antiphonal hurry.

I've written our host to see what's up with all these problems this week.  We really haven't had ANY problems for a year, at least - we went to their more expensive and larger server, we now archive our posts as they suggested we do, so unless they're doing year-end maintenance every day, something is wrong.  I'm sure I'll get some snippy, snarky response - we shall see.

The first day after Christmas my true love and I had a fight
And so I chopped the pear tree down and burned it just for spite
Then with a single cartridge, I shot that blasted partridge
My true love, my true love, my true love gave to me

The second day after Christmas, I pulled on the old rubber gloves
And very gently wrung the necks of both the turtle doves
My true love, my true love, my true love gave to me

The third day after Christmas, my mother caught the croup;
I had to use the three French hens to make some chicken soup
The four calling birds were a big mistake, for their language was obscene.
The five gold rings were completely fake and they turned my fingers green

The sixth day after Christmas, the six laying geese wouldn't lay,
I gave the whole darn gaggle to the A.S.P.C.A.
On the seventh day what a mess I found
All seven of the swimming swans had drowned
My true love, my true love, my true love gave to me

The eighth day after Christmas, before they could suspect,
I bundled up the eight maids a milking, nine pipers piping
Ten ladies dancing, 'leven lords a leaping,
Twelve drummers drumming and sent them back collect
I wrote my true love, "We are through, love,"
And I said in so many words,
"Furthermore your Christmas gifts were for the birds!"

Good afternoon!

Well, after a calm period with no theatre January will be busy.

Anthony and I are seeing The 39 Steps, an "hilarious" mystery, according to all the press and then I'm seeing The Little Mermaid (I exchanged my strike-cancelled ticket for a new date) and I'm seeing the London production of Sunday in the Park with George.

And now I will take leave.

Safe travel to Jose.

Later, gaters.

I'm not feeling the Christmas spirits.

Perhaps some more Speedo Santas would do the trick?  [so to speak...]
