The Five Candidates for Queen for a Day:

1. Lady and husband living in a trailer with four daughters. She wanted wanted bunk beds for the older girls.

2. Lady had a 15-year-old son who had polio and he was in a body cast. She wanted a hospital gurney so she could take him outside sometimes.

3. Lady and her husband had bought a grocery store and needed stock to sell. They had no retail experience and had only 64 cents in the register.

4. Lady had two daughters and her husband had been accidentally shot in a hunting accident a few months before. She had no education and wanted to go to beauty school to make money to raise her children.

5. Lady had an 18-year-old son with a rheumatic heart. He was home schooled and she wanted an encyclopedia to help him with his learning, a rug for his cement floor, and paint to make his basement room brighter.

By the end of the show, I was an emotional wreck. Number Four was Queen for a Day....and got to go to beauty school and learn how to be a beautician....

All from one of the nicest night spots in Hollywood..The Moulin Rouge!

DR JRand, that Queen for a Day episode was sooooo depressing...I don't know how anyone could watch that program regularly. I felt so bad for the gals who did not win (actually I was embarassed for the grocery store lady...what did they do with all of the money from the goods sold! I think hubby really had a gambling problem...lol)...and felt even worse for the fact that they all aired their wretched, sad stories on national television to be voted on!

And people think reality shows today are terrible!

And that host seems way too gleeful, as if he really dosn't give a hoot about how sad the stories are.

I think she deserves to win. Turning yourself into a hospital gurney is truly an act of love!

I delivered said package to my DH on the set; apparently this was a cable that was supposed to be delivered to the studio. But then I would have missed Mr. UPS and all these nice ditties. I agree, it should be a musical.

We received some lovely Christmas cards from some lovely dear readers and a wonderful calandar from an animal lover from down under, featuring photos of endangered species from down under. And we still have managed to save a few of DR Elmore's chocolates for my friend when she returns!

Good Afternoon!

DR elmore - I await my return from the provinces too. -Although, I have to say, I'm kind of surprised that I haven't gotten "antsy" yet about not being in New York City right now. In fact, I'm finding myself sooooooo in vacation mode. It's been great waking up each morning, and knowing that I have nothing(!) to do, nothing I have to do, and even nothing I want to do.

But I am looking forward to flying back to NYC on the first day of 2008.

DR edisaurus - The plasticine animation is quite something. That clip you found is from a series of animations set to classical music. I also remember a couple of featurettes from grade school.

My mother used to watch "Queen for a Day" and another 50's reality-type show called "Bride and Groom." Anyone remember that one?
