Back from DR FJLs smashing party, with delicious food provided by DF Skip, and great co-company provided by DRs elmore and Jose, and a few other wonderful friends.

Afterwards, I caught a performance of the Charles Mee musical Queens Boulevard over at the Signature Theater.  I wasn't sure what to expect. I know a lot of people have disliked it.  I found it quite original, and enjoyed watching the story unfold.  At nearly 2 hours without intermission, however, I felt it was just too long.  The story started unraveling a bit for me during the last half hour, when I felt it was really losing direction and impact.  But I like how it ended, and there were some scenes that I thought were very good.

I did indeed do the dishes tonight.  It was an all-plastic-dish-and-plastic-utensils-and-plastic-cups affair (except for the coffee cups, when I did think about you :) - a vague Sondheim reference), so doing the dishes consisted of throwing two garbage bags down the garbage chute.

I feel badly now that I ran out and left you with all that work, Fred.

I bought Christmas presents for my computer yesterday. I'd been having a problem---my G3 laptop wouldn't work without the power cable. If it was disconnected, the computer would freeze up, especially while using Safari, even though the battery seemed to be fully charged.

The Mac genius said that my battery was fried and that happens after several years. So I bought a new battery AND a new power cable. The old one had a bent plug and one of the widing wings was broken off.

I charged up the battery and when it hit 37 %, it froze, and again at 17%. Argh.

Callie and Boo are the absolute cutest!
Do they make noises as they're watching the squirrel from the window?
I had a cat once that would make odd squeaking noises when watching squirrels and birds -- I never heard those noises at any other time.  It was special sounds reserved just for (wishful) pray!

I'm having a lovelier than lovely cozy evening lying on my couch.  Sometimes I tell the truth on my couch, but since I was just sitting there like so much fish, I decided to lie on my couch.  Just prior to lying on the couch, I'd fixed a few little things I'd written earlier, then wrote and additional page and a half for close to seven pages, which is a LOT of pages for me in one day, especially when beginning a new book.

Someone should look it up, but I'm thinking this is the best New Year's Day posting number in our entire history.

I've been watching motion pictures that were just TIVOd - first The Bigamist, which I have much to say about, and now House Of Numbers, which I've never seen.

COOL!

WNET - Channel 13 - here in NYC is currently running a couple of the Metropolitan Opera broadcasts back to back tonight.  Currently, Mozart's "The Magic Flute" is on.  Ah.... Nathan Gunn.  :)

I Tivo'd a few of the Slings and Arrows episodes from today's marathon, and I think I will watch a couple of them tonight for my late night viewing.

Callie and Boo would wish you a Happy New Year, but they are a little preoccupied

I should have called Callie and Boo!

And for my first Kritzerland duty this year, I have to ship an amazon order and an order to Bruce Yeko - the latter includes The Last Starfighter AND The Brain From Planet X.

This is my first cougar sighting since we have lived here.  I know they are out there, as well as bears.  So far I really haven’t minded not seeing them up close.

Gorgeous animals. But no, not too close!

I began my evening tonight watching DIE HARD on Blu-ray. Looks better than any sDVD of the movie I've ever seen, but it's not reference quality HD stuff certainly. The newest one LIVE FREE AND DIE HARD certainly IS reference quality video and audio.

I finished my evening with MUSIC AND LYRICS BY JERRY HERMAN. I echo the praise of others who have already seen it. Remarkable footage and wonderful backstage stories from those involved who are still with us. (Surprised Bernadette Peters wasn't interviewed for MACK & MABEL.) And I was SO relieved it wasn't another revue type tribute to his songs like JERRY HERMAN AT THE HOLLYWOOD BOWL. It's entertaining, but we have that already. This was much more interesting to me.

And it played straight through with no station breaks or anything. I was kind of surprised this wasn't used for one of those pledge drive things. It's precisely the type of show they use to raise money.

Just finished watching Words and Music by Jerry Herman, which I quite enjoyed.

Now I have to accept the fact that tomorrow is a work day and try to get some sleep.

My neighbors' party was more interesting than I expected. It's a nice enough group of people--mostly neighbors--but so many people are attorneys and the conversation easily turns legal. Not being particularly legal-minded myself, I get a bit bored. Just as many legal minds present today--hosts are both attorneys--but I found it more entertaining than usual. I stayed longer than I expected as a result.
