??? I just got back from lunch.  I wonder what you had originally written.

DR George, it was worded badly and you don't need to know. :)

The second involved Felix and Oscar investing money in a Japanese restaurant, but when Felix objected to the messy kitchen, everyone walked out and Felix, Oscar, and Murray had to try to salvage things. Pat Morita played the owner of the establishment.

Then I watched MARGOT AT THE WEDDING. Very off-putting comedy-drama about the many dysfunctional relationships in a family with the two sisters played by Nicole Kidman and Jennifer Jason Leigh. Great cast: Jack Black, John Turturro, Cirian Hinds. But lots of sniping and making up, and even at 92 minutes, it seemed uncomfortably long.

And right after the Paramount/Vantage logo, this green haze descended on the picture, and the entire film was further distressed with this overly processed look to everything. In the bonus features, it showed how bright and sunny everything was while they were filming, so to obliterate this bright look, they laid on this green film that sucked any happiness or energy out of the movie. Even the joking around that Jack Black did was soured by the look of the cinematography.

Other than the two trailers (and some previews for other Paramount pictures), the only bonus in the set was a conversation between director Noah Baumbach and his wife and the co-star of the film Jennifer Jason Leigh. They both adored Nicole Kidman, of course, and each praises the other to the skies in terms of writing/directing and acting, the very antithesis of the comments we see the characters making to each other in the movie. This gave me my best laugh of the afternoon. If only those poor miserable people in the film had been given an ounce of encouragement that these two give one another in the bonus features! Of course, then, there would have been no movie.

For those of you have have CBS shows you're fond of, here's the skinny on their returns:

Monday sitcoms How I Met Your Mother, Big Bang Theory and Two and a Half Men are each returning with nine new eppys on March 17. (Rules of Engagement doesn't return until April 14, with a half-dozen.)

On March 24, CSI: Miami airs the first of eight new shows, while CSI: NY returns April 2 with seven, and CSI original flavor resurfaces April 3 with six.

Cold Case returns March 30 with five episodes, Criminal Minds kicks off seven new ones on April 2, and Trace is back on April 3 with six.

On April 4, both Ghost Whisperer and Numbers fans get the first of six, while Moonlighters are getting four new episodes starting April 11. NCIS is back April 8 with seven, and Shark's got four to unfurl at a to-be-determined date.

I'm here, I'm here, and caught up.  The past few days I've been feeling quite crappy.  I think it's the lack of good sleep and my reduced food intake the last few weeks.  The DP and I started the Weight Watchers program over 3 weeks ago, and while I have 44 points a day, I always come up 10 points or more ahead, thus, not eating like I should.  Last night I had a good sleep, I stayed home from work (except I did a funeral this morning) and started to eat better and am finally feeling a bit better.

NEW YORK POST

Quote
CANDY MAN CAN'T

NAKED COWBOY SUES OVER SINGIN' M&M

By KATI CORNELL
February 13, 2008 -- Times Square's Naked Cowboy is trying to take a $6 million bite out of a giant candy corporation, charging it stole his identity by dressing an animated blue M&M in his skimpy trademark outfit.
The nearly nude street performer, whose real name is Robert Burck, has his tighty whities in such a bunch over a massive video billboard showing the candy in a white hat, boots, guitar and underwear that he's filed suit against the mighty Mars candy corporation.

The case of Naked Cowboy vs. The Men From Mars will be heard in Manhattan federal court.

My brownbag lunch program went fine - about a dozen hearty souls showed up.  After my own lunch and a brief time here at my desk, I went back upstairs for an informational meeting about our new health insurance option.  My brain is fried and now I have to go home and explain the health insurance to Richard.

I, of course, am most thrilled that MOONLIGHT will film four new episodes to close out its first season. And that sounds a lot like a sure pick-up for a second season in the fall. Hooray!

Luckily for me, the doctor recommended a walk every day for the cholesterol and bone density.  :)

A daily ritual:

Walk to McDonald's
Order a large-fries, "Supersized, please", to go.
Walk home

I would never confuse the Naked Cowboy and an M&M.  For one thing, the M&M melts in your mouth and not in your hand.

He should just appreciate the publicity.  Yikes!

I loved the scene in GWTW where Miss Scarlett took her mother's Poitier and made a dress!

(This post solely for those paying "close" attention!)  :D

A scene the movie stole from The Carol Burnett Show!

(close attention, not a Damages reference, notices that the correct spelling in  Karen's post should have been portiere)

Hmm... That's interesting, DR SWW - I know there are some localities where bars are required to serve some sort of food in order to get fully licensed as a bar.  The local government wants people to have some sort of sustenance available to the imbibers to help them "control" their bodies' alcohol absorption.

I don't know if the laws in Washington have changed in the last few years, but when I used to bartend; the law required 60 / 40.  60% food sales and 40% liquor sales.  Of course, many inventive bar owners, required that soft drinks be rung up as food items.

Among the few things I remember from two years of Latin in high school (lo, these many decades ago):

"Mica, mica parva stella"

That's "Twinkle, twinle little star," by the way.

You never learned:

"Ubi, oh ubi, est meus sub ubi?"

(Where, oh where, is my underwear)

der Brucer

Maybe that was in Fourth Year Latin - I was a glutton for punishment!

I took third and fourth year Latin to avoid taking Chemistry and Physics - my punishment for that was to spend 6 college years in Engineering studies!

Very nice Latin being posted here today.

It killed the Romans, you know.

Only the polite heathens. The vulagate Christians lived on.

Of course, if she misspelled one, she could just as well have misspelled the other.

The important thing here is that the point wasn't lost and fun was had.  And her use of "Portier" was meant to be "Poitier" not "portiere".  I riffed....

Beyond that, everything is overkill.
