This afternoon I'll take a break from reviewing to enjoy MEET JOE BLACK on HD-DVD.

Tonight, it's back to reviewing with THINGS WE LOST IN THE FIRE.

Full day of movie watching capped off by TORCHWOOD tonight.

Here are the Oscar predictions I made for the Oscar contest sponsored annually by THE CHARLOTTE OBSERVER:

Best Picture - NO COUNTRY FOR OLD MEN

Best Actor - Daniel Day-Lewis/THERE WILL BE BLOOD

Best Actress - Julie Christie/AWAY FROM HER

Best Supporting Actor - Javier Bardiem/NO COUNTRY FOR OLD MEN

Best Supporting Actress - Ruby Dee/AMERICAN GANGSTER

Best Director - Joel and Ethan Coen/NO COUNTRY FOR OLD MEN

I think Ruby Dee's five minute performance will be a career win (similar to Alan Arkin's undeserved win for LITTLE MISS SUNSHINE last year).

ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY is predicting an upset in the category: Tilda Swinton for MICHAEL CLAYTON. She did win the BAFTA, and Amy Ryan has won the majority of the critics' awards for GONE BABY GONE. So this should be the night's closest race.

EW also said that there may be a Best Actress upset with either Ellen Page or Laura Linney winning.

Thanks to all who expressed "vibeage" for me yesterday.  It is appreciated.

Some of the symptoms are a bit more pronounced today.  I'm countering them with OTC meds, as appropriate to the symptom.

I'm not down and out by any means.  But I hate fighting these viruses.  I'm not as resilient, energy-wise, as I once was.  A little exertion requires a recuperating nap.

Marvelous Matt was supposed to be here today to take care of a bunch of small repairs, one of them the result of the high winds we had a week or so ago. But he has the flu--he's NEVER sick--so I have the day to myself. Well, I have the HOUSE to myself.

Ron, maybe I WAS hit in the head then. Would I know??

That you are able to consider the possibility seems like a good sign to me.

We've had a few frustrations from dear reader with the TV discussions, and I think MattH is right - let's just put bigger spoiler alert at the top with the name of the show - I think that discussing the shows is fine and fun and we've been doing it forever - I certainly have been guilty of spoilage in the past.  That is my two centimes.

And maybe putting a spoiler space AFTER writing whatever we're writing might also prevent accidentally reading something that's at the bottom of the post when one is reading the top of the subsequent post.

I will REALLY try to do better about this.

The other option for "spoilers" that I've seen used on some other sites would be to post spoiler posts in yellow.  It's harder to read.  Those who wish to read the post can simply click and drag with their mouse to highlight the text, which then becomes more clearly defined.    Just a thought.

We just finished watching the PBS Company.

First, I'm grateful to PBS for presenting it.  I don't think anyone else would bother.

The director's "concept" didn't do anything for me, or for the material, in my humble opinion.  That said, I can see how, at least sitting in the theatre live, it could have been, at moments, moving and theatrically effective.  There were, for me, too many moments of raggedness [vocally and/or instrumentally] or imbalances in the orchestrations.  Still, some nicely gauged performances.

The editing was a bit "busy" for my taste.

I'm back! I'm front!

Camping was fun, didn't freeze my arse off, but the dune buggy wasn't working, so I didn't get to ride/bounce around the desert like I'd hoped.
When I got back, I was moderately busy with a few things.
No, you know what it was? I went into hiding because I saw the photos of myself from dinner at Genghis Cohen. Yikes.
I'm kidding, I just saw them. But I still say, Yikes. But I dislike most photos of myself, so oh well.

Let's see, what else is new?
I slammed my finger in the car door when we stopped for lunch on the way to the desert. It's bruised pretty bad, but the the nail didn't turn black, so that's a plus. It doesn't really hurt anymore, just feels weird.
I got a job lead for clericial work at the San Pedro Marina that pays pretty well. That'd be nice!
I went to the Star Trek Tour in Long Beach yesterday. I knew it wouldn't be like a convention, but past that, I didn't really know what to expect. It was actually like a Star Trek museum. But there were also cool photo ops & a couple ST themed virtual coasters.

Dont' have a clue about the Oscars. I have seen only one film and it got a nomination for Johnny Depp. I don't care much about the Oscars anymore and haven't for years but this might be the first year in which I haven't seen nor care to see any of the big movies. I guess I'm creeping into curmudenonville  ;)
