In preparation for tomorrow's Oscar bash, I made a list of the nominated films, from all categories, that I've seen:

Charlie Wilson's War
Elizabeth: The Golden Age
Enchanted
La Vie en Rose - DVD only
Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End - DVD only
Ratatouille - DVD only
Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street

Pretty slim list.  Richard and I have seen none of the Best Picture nominees.

Back from my first round of errands to Staples and Fed Ex/Kinko. I think I'll now make a jaunt to my storage space and drag back a few cartons of DVDs.

After that, I'll do some Toyland work at the computer.

I just caught, as I came in, the tantrum the Millionaire Matchmaker made when her assistants asked for raises; it was all about "how dare you ask for a raise when I give you freebies and bonuses" and sounded just like the rant I got when I left the Drama Book Shop in 1981 because I was carrying a lot of the workload for the owners who were making about $100,000 a year between salaries and bonuses and I was at their maximum pay level of $175.00/week, which was about $120 after deductions.  No on can live on any level in Manhattan at $120/week, expecially if your rent is $400/month!  Of course, that was 20+ years ago.  My rent is double that now.  And still a bargain for Manhattan.

I believe that tomorrow night I'll be watching the final third of PRIDE & PREJUDICE instead of the Oscars.  Since my movie going is rare these days and the only nominated film I've seen, I believe, is NO COUNTRY FOR OLD MEN, which I liked, I'm completely apathetic.  I agree with DR brian(?) that HOT FUZZ was onbe of my faves of last year and I also loved ENCHANTED, but I feel very much like Rhett Butler over the Awards night.

And, of course, when I was seeing lots of film, they were all with goddaughter Charlotte so they were mainly chick flics.  They never seem to be nominated.

DR Michael S - We went through the whole SPOILER discussion a couple of months ago, and a couple of times before that - and it wasn't just related to "Lost", so...

First of all, it's just a TV program.

Secondly, there are more sources for potential SPOILERS for "Lost" - and any other show - than just HHW.  Heck, even some of the previews and commercials for the shows seem to contain a bit more information than some people would like.  Yes, sometimes the information is misleading, but it's still information nonetheless.  You might as well ask ABC not to do any more publicity for the show - which is something that would definitely not happen.

Thirdly, if we stopped talking about "Lost", well... Fridays would be mighty dead around here.  ;)

Finally, I stated a few days ago, that I don't really get all that invested with TV shows mainly because my schedule usually doesn't allow me to keep up with programs on a regular basis.  Consequently, sometimes I just go ahead and ask "Who got kicked off?", "What happened?", etc.  And then go back to watching the show when and if I can.  Yes, the surprise element may no longer be there, but I'd have to say with "Lost" in particular, even knowing some of the "surprises" in advance hasn't really lessened my sense of excitement and wonder as those surprises begin to get revealed.  Nothing on "Lost" is ever as it seems on first view, and the writers have done an amazing job of keeping you guessing at every turn.  Yes, I know where I'm going, but the journey there is still worth the air fare.  ;)

DR elmore - Hmm.. A movie may work this late this afternoon, early evening.  I have a few things I need to take care of around the apartment today - especially now that I'm not feeling so logey and sluggish.  I'll give you a call.

And speaking of movies...

I've seen all of the Best Picture nominees this year, and a bunch of the other nominated films.  Frankly, like DR elmore and others, nothing really excites me this year about any of the "races".  My sense from most of the Best Pic nominees is that people tried to make "Important" films rather than just "Good" ones... At the very least, "The Academy" nominated "Important" films rather than the truly "Good" ones.  So... :-\

However, I am interested to see how the Best Song category works itself out since Alan Menken and Stephen Schwartz's songs from "Enchanted" fill three of the five slots.  -And I'm also looking forward to Kristin Chenoweth and Amy Adams performing too, as well as the duo from "Once".  As for the song from "August Rush", well... I'm happy for the Harlem-based composer and choir that were nominated and will be performing on the telecast tomorrow night, but I would have filled that slot with another song from "Once" or "Enchanted" (then Carrie Underwood would have gotten on the Oscars too!). ;)

I got an e-mail notifying me that I won the World Cup Lottery (funny, I don't remember ever entering it), but I'm sure the money is practically just on its way to me.  So, I think I'll buy the Plaza and turn it into the Haines Home for Wayward Mavens, and we can ALLL live there.

Thanks for the birthday greetings!

Now, on to Todai for my free birthday lunch.

My Oscar predictions?

NO COUNTRY FOR OLD MEN, Daniel Day-Lewis, Julie Christie, Tom Wilkinson (More hope than prediction.  He's the one that deserves it.). Amy Ryan (She'll be robbed if she doesn' get it.) and the Coen Brothers.

Actually, I liked MICHAEL CLAYTON more than I did NO COUNTRY FOR OLD MEN, but I won't be unhappy if the latter wins.

Unfortunately, I've not seen JUNO yet.

Please no more postings about Lost spoilers or otherwise.

I like to wait for the DVDs to come out and watch them that way.

Even scrolling past postings you catch things.

Last night DR MATT HOUGH wrote something about Lost that I didn't know it was about Lost until I started to read it and then I immediatly stopped.

So please please please no more Lost postings.

Am I reading you correctly?  WE are not supposed to post ANYTHING about current TV shows because YOU, Michael Shayne, prefer to wait until they're out on DVD and watch them that way?

GEEZ, LOUISE!  Much of what WE discuss here at HainesHisWay is the weekly episode of a show like "Lost"  or "Heroes" or "Jericho" or "Medium" or whatever reality show might be airing like "Project Runway," "Big Brother", "Survivor", "Amazing Race", "American Idol", etc., etc.  A lot of OUR enjoyment comes in sharing thoughts with others in this forum about the most recent episode.

Since most of us follow internet protocol with SPOILER alerts, I think your best solution is to work harder to not read those posts labeled for your convenience.

Perhaps we must also stop discussing movies you haven't seen?  Where will it all end, I wonder!  No more postings of pet pictures because someone is allergic to dogs and cats and even the sight of one causes a breakout of  hives?

Hey, guys:

Thanks for the title, but I'm NOT a doctor.

My mother would've been happy if I was a doctor, or a lawyer, or a CPA, but I disappointed her.

I went into that "evil, unsavory" profession, known as show business...and I love it.

Marvelous Matt was supposed to be here today to take care of a bunch of small repairs, one of them the result of the high winds we had a week or so ago. But he has the flu--he's NEVER sick--so I have the day to myself. Well, I have the HOUSE to myself.

Ron, maybe I WAS hit in the head then. Would I know??

Michael, do you honestly think that's a fair request? I'm abjectly sorry if I unintentionally spoiled information for you, but for one of the shows that many of us here find incredibly exciting to watch and then talk about later, this is simply not a fair request.

I think it's reasonable to ask that we double our efforts to be careful about what we post, but to deprive ourselves of scintillating discussion now because you choose to wait for the release of the DVDs is not reasonable.

I'll be curious to see how other DRs who are LOST fans feel about this.

Good morning.

It barely got to 40 yesterday, and today it's to be 65! Such is life in the South. It was cloudy, foggy, and gloomy this morning, but the skies appear to be clearing now, and it's definitely not cold outside like it was yesterday.
