Thanks for the theatre report, DR Ben.

I thought I had read that Next to Normal would be recorded for posterity?

And the word of the day is: SOPOROSE!
Today, the word of this day should be SOPOKELLY, or SOPOJADE, or SOPOLIME, or SOPOVERT.

A SOPOROSE by any other name would smell as sweet, but I'm too tired to bother.

Make that twenty-two GUESTS.  Doesn't it make you wonder who's up reading this late?
They're all Hawaiian.  When it's midnight in the Angeles of Los, it's still ten p.m. in the Lulu of Hono.

It's been very interesting hearing people's reactions to show over the past few weeks.  I liked it (when I saw it with DR FJL), but thought some of the dramaturgy was confusing, especially in the closing moments.  I did not get back to see it after it officially opened, but from what I understand they really did not change much more of the show after we had seen it.  It seems that each person I talked to interpreted the ending in different ways.  Was the son really a ghost throughout? Was the father crazy too?  or was he just in a great denial?  Or both?

However, everyone seemed to agree that Aaron Tveit's pecs and abs were well-served by the lighting.  ;)

As for a possible transfer, let's just say that someone is still trying to make it happen.  :-X

Yes, Mr. Tveit's pecs and abs were quite the sight!

I hope it is recorded (Next to Normal).

Both my friend and I thought that the father was not "crazy" but just in deep denial about his son.

SPOILER IF YOU'RE AT ALL INTERESTED IN THIS SHOW

The "reconciliation" between the father and son made me cry.

I think of a warning more like, "Hey! He's got a knife!" or "Don't drink from her glass; she's got a cold!" ...
"Beware the Jabberwock" is one of my favorites.

As for the Topic of the Day...

The first song that comes to mind, well, actually it's a mélodie, is Debussy's setting of the Verlaine poem, "Green", that is paired with "Spleen" as part of the Ariettes Oubliées.  I remember having to learn that accompaniment for some grad school auditions - and I still have most of it "memorized" in my fingers.  Fauré also set the same poem, but sets a totally different mood with his harmonies.

Another song from my Classical school days: Herbert Kingsley's "The Green Dog"

Otherwise...

"On Green Dolphin Street"

And cinematically speaking...

"Behind the Green Door"

~~~~~FEEL BETTER VIBES TO DR TD~~~~~
*How are you eyes feeling?  Sometimes an infection in your tear ducts can cause your face to swell.
My left eye is fine, my right eye is having difficulty focusing due to the swelling. . .
The odd thing, to me, is that I feel super-fine; it's odd to be off sick when feeling fit as a fiddle.   ???
Jose - I heard they did tweak NEXT TO NORMAL after opening, most importantly removing the much-talked-about (and disagreed-upon-on-chat-boards) Costco number by the end of the run.  A very well-written number, i hope it remains as a bonus track on the eventual cast recording, but a number of people thought it caused harm dramaturgically in setting up (for some, the wrong way) the hell experienced by the character played by Alice Ripley.
Thanks, Fred.  I'm just wondering if the cast recording will be a one or two disc set.  There is certainly enough music in the show for a two-disc set - and if they include some of the material they cut from the show's previous incarnation, Feeling Electric, they could certainly fill up both discs.
I'm full o' culture!
The opera on Saturday was 4 hours, with intermissions.
Yesterday afternoon's concert of Bach's St. Matthew Passion also lasted 4 hours.
A Passion lasting four hours....
I love "Chevaux du bois" from Ariettes oubliees, which is not about green, but Giuseppe Verdi's name is Joe Green and  I love nearly everything he wrote.
I'm back: good blood pressure, loss of 12 lbs, and I have a chest xray tmorrow at 12:30.
To continue the saga of David Morse, John Dossett, and Stuart White: Stuart was the original director of CRIMES OF THE HEART regionally and a lot of the play's success, I believe, is due to his input since I have yet to see another Beth Henley play as good.  For the 30s revue, John Dossett sang beautifully Rodgers & Hart's "My Romance" from JUMBO, and David, who's a much better actor than singer, had "Brother, Can You spare A Dime," as I recall. I met Tom Jones' first wife Elinor through Stuart; he was directing a play she'd written with Jeanne Moreau in the title. Elinor was a major reason Tom and Harvey became interested in Colete, since it was her play about the author that got the ball rolling.
I last saw John, who's married to Michelle Pawk, at a preview of CABARET and I haven't seen David in probably 20 years since he and his wife live in LA.
Isn't it funny what we all assume about one another's knowledge of show biz? I wouldn't have believed this if you hadn't admitted it.
In addition to ALL FALL DOWN and HUD, please check out his early screen work in THE MEMBER OF THE WEDDING and SHANE (which garnered him an Oscar-nomination).
I HIGHLY recommend a British mystery called GREEN FOR DANGER available on a Criterion DVD. A wonderful British cast (including the always entertaining Alister Sim) and a crackerjack mystery, too.
