Shocking news about the orchestra....which turns out to be the kind that Rosalind Russell was told about in the movie GYPSY.

Rose:  Do you have a pit?

Theater Manager:  Yup, three pieces.  Piano, stool, and cover.

Saturday morning greetings!  It's nice to have a weekend off - I don't have any plans for these 3 days.  Maybe I can get some puttering done.

Good morning, all! BK, congratulations. Why do something once if you can do it twice?

I'm in the midst of laundry. Both in the basement and down the street at my local laundromat.

DR Jose, when you get out of bed or get home, call me about the movie.

Today, I need to write about Harlequinades and other aspects of 19th Century British pantomime.  I got to get a move on Duke Ellington as well.

DR RonPulliam, I hope your mother is all right now.

DR JoseSPiano - thanks for the links re: The Last Lecture.  I missed the broadcast, but now I can watch.  And both Amazon and local Borders stores were temporarily sold out of the book version.  That should make a nice nest egg for his family!

You're welcome, DR singdaw.  I was really caught off guard by just how incredible his story and his "lecture" was and is.   Talk about putting things in perspective!  I can honestly say that I'm truly changed after watching him last night.  -Well, at the very least, I want to change.  -Heck, I've never felt this way after watching "Oprah".  ;)

Everything is now in dryers and I Steri-Fabbed the mattress and box springs to keep Bug Central secure.  I have yet to mop the bathroom and I'm waiting till the apartment seems ventilated enough that all the chemicals won't kill me.

I ended up liking much of the new MANSFIELD PARK. Like the one from the 1990s with Jonny Lee Miller and Frances O'Connor, the plot is heavily condensed but the tone is wrong. Both versions telegraph too much about the sexual aspects of the story and Maria Bertram's adultery far too early and blatantly. The Crawford's also speak far too openly about their evil aspirations. I suppose I'm glad the writers didn't explore what seems to me an oblique incestuous relationship in the novel; they're a rather perverse set of siblings.  I like the cast of the 1997 version better - it's certainly more glamorous - but there are some excellent performances in this one.  I liked very much Douglas Hodge and Jemma Redgrave as Sir Thomas and Lady Bertram, although she's not the whining fool that she is in the novel, but he's really spot on.

Like the last PRIDE AND PREJUDICE with Kiera Knightly, I wish they'd given us 30-45 minutes more to smooth out things and give Mrs Norris, who's right up there with Dickens' Murdstones for evil and inhumane behavior to our heroine, a chance to step into the foreground again and do petty, mean things. If only Alison Hayes had lived to play such a role!

DR Jose, we'd talked about the simon Pegg movie and I see there's a showing at 68th Street at 12:50 and 3:50.

I'd prefer the later time if you'd like to catch it.

The movie on my agenda for today is Lifetime's adaptation of Kim Edwards' book The Memory Keeper's Daughter.  My book group read it last year and we're all interested to see this version.

BELATED BIRTHDAY WISHES for DR Cillaliz's Mom.

And yes, I've been to the Fairmont Opera House many times!  In fact, my DH's parents, Fairmont residents, were some of the original movers & shakers who spearheaded the buying and restoring of the building.

They may know my sister-in-law, she sells advertising for KEYC in Mankato and I think Fairmont is in her territory, I could be wrong about that. Anyway,  she and my brother got my parents season tickets for Christmas, so the four of them go to all the shows together.

DR MATT

I see that Lawrence of Arabia is being re-release on Tuesday. (I think it is this coming Tuesday) Will that be on Blu Ray and/or SDVD?

Although not a favorite of mine Bridge on the River Kwai is also being released.

Neither is a Blu-ray release. Fans of the films are clamoring for the movies in Blu-ray, but so far nothing has been announced from Columbia/Sony.

I already have both on sDVD, and while they should both make great viewing in high definition, I wouldn't be in a hurry to add either Blu-ray to my collection. I'd probably wait around for a sale.

Good morning!

We had a horrific thunderstorm last night with heavy rains for a couple of hours. Still overcast this morning, and today will be the last of our warm days for awhile. Falling back into the 50s and 60s starting tomorrow.
