DR Jane - can't you train Sherlock to retrieve the mail?   ;D
Sherlock would retrieve the mailman.

I suppose we could count John Jacob Astor's first wife Ava Astor.  she was famous enough to have divorced him (thus saving herself from saling on the Titanic).  I think Ava was also his daughters name, so I should get double points.

...And since I happened to walk by Amy's Bread on the way to the subway... And since they had just put out a fresh Monkey Cake on the counter as I was walking in, well...  I shall be enjoying the slice later.  After my nap.  :)

Monkey Cake, to me is really fresh moist banana bread with frosting.

I know 83 degrees is cool for DR Laura, I however was hoping it would cool down more before I took the long walk to the mailbox.  I hope I don't have to carry any packages back up the long hill.

It's 110 here today. Oy!

Our Heat Wave has ended.  It was in the low 70s today, and it is supposed to rain tonight.

Okay, I didn't specifically search to find this, but I came across it...I was looking up info on Jason Bateman because his sister Justine was on "Desperate Housewives" last night (he's cuter) and I found out that his wife is Amanda Anka, daughter of Paul Anka. :)

I'm now leaving.  At 6:00 pm (PDT), there is a meeting of my condo's home owner's association.  I figure since I'm a home owner, I should go to the home owner's association meeting.  The last time I went, it lasted three, count 'em, THREE hours! :P Hopefully, it won't be that long, this time.

Until later!

Hmm... I just saw the commercial for the upcoming Broadway production of Billy Elliot. Obviously, the footage is from the original London production.  -Now I'm wondering if the producers will splurge for a new U.S. commercial once the show opens here, or if they'll take the Mary Poppins' route and just use the U.K. commercial?

I really loved the movie Billy Elliot. I can't wait to see it on Broadway.

And there's Ava Astaire, daughter of Fred, for whom Fred's record label Ava was named (later changed to Choreo - or maybe it was the other way around).

LOL DR Singdaw.  Too hot out there for Sherlock, I went alone.

DR George-I took a light weight plastic grocery bag.  I got lucky & there wasn't anything too heavy.  In the cooler weather I wear a sweatshirt with a big single pocket in the front and put the mail in there.  Sometimes I look 8 months pregnant on the way home.

The mailman drives a station wagon while sitting on the passenger seat, in order to reach the mailboxes which are on his right.

At least you can get to one.  In the almost 5 years Bryan lived in his loft he was working or had classes for every single meeting.

Neve rmind, I found the answer:
A monkey's delight, with fresh bananas, pineapple, and toasted pecans; dense, moist, and chunky; wrapped in cream cheese icing.

Well, we've avoided what could have been a crisis with my aunt this evening.  My mom tried to call her at 4:30 this afternoon, then again just after 8pm, getting no answer.  Mom called me and I called my aunt's number, let it ring 30 times, and got no answer.  Called my mom back, she called security there at the retirement community, and they checked on my aunt, who was fine.  They determined that the phone was working, but we don't know if a) she didn't hear it, or b) was choosing not to answer.  Either way, it caused some anxiety that my mother does not need.

Now, I'm going to bed.
