I am glad I reread your comment. I thought you said cast...

Earle H. Hagen, who both composed and whistled the theme song for television's Andy Griffith show, has passed on.

Awwwww....

He wrote the first book I ever bought about music scoring for films. It came with a couple of 45's in a sleeve in the back. I've still got the book, but wish I still had the 45's.

SWEENEY TODD (the Doyle version) opened in Atlanta last night. And Edmund Bagnell is sure "working the room"! I saw him on our local morning show and in a few minutes he'll be on my favorite radio station AM1690, The Voice of the Arts.

(And the song of the day should probably be the theme from ARNIE.  I never miss a Herschel Bernardi TV series.)

Happy birthday to Arnold Brockman!!!

Good morning!

It's overcast today and we're expecting rain, but it hasn't arrived yet. Cooler than the last morning or two, but nothing like the deliciously cool mornings last week. I think I'll have to turn on the A/C by Saturday. Boo!

I think someone should do a remake of Dr. Syn, telling the whole story, instead of the whitewashed Disney version.

I visited Dr. Syn's church in Dymchurch the first time I went to England. They buried him outside the cemetary so he would be near the church but not on "hallowed ground".

It's a beautiful area on the coast of England, near New Romney, where the beginning of the book "Kipps" (adapted and musicalized into HALF A SIXPENCE) took place. A editor I've been friends with for 30 years, ever since we worked together in London, just moved to that area (Kent) so I am tempted to take a nice relaxing trip there after CLOSER season, which now looks like it will end sooner than we all anticipated.

DR MBarnum,

If you decide to select some ODD COUPLE discs from NetFlix, don't get anything from Season One. They did it as a one camera show without an audience that year, and the episodes are fairly lame. Seasons 2-5 were done before a live audience, and that feeling of immediacy is paramount for this show.

Seasons 2-4 (now or soon to be available on DVD) are the ones to get.

I remember that show...don't remember the theme, though.

I have to say watching DR. SYN on TV all those years ago used to scare me silly with that hideous cackle the Scarecrow used.

I am looking forward to finally getting the show (the Disney tin will have the three TV installments as well as the movie feature culled from combing those three episodes.)

Once again, nothing on TV for me tonight, so I'll finish up THE ODD COUPLE set )hopefully) this afternoon and then move on to 7TH HEAVEN.

I'll also slip in an NCIS episode or two from the Season 1 set.

Yes, I read the news about Earle Hagen this morning and was sad to see it. One by one, all the cast and crew of the wonderful ANDY GRIFFITH SHOW are leaving us.
