I have Earle Hagen's orchestration book, which I got back in college in a Jazz Theory class.  It's got a garish green cover, with a plastic roll clip binding.  I think maybe Hagen published it himself.

DR Jrand i watch a lot of reality shows.

There have been a few contestants this year who have almost made it before (who tried out again). I will look for the football guy.

ASK BK

Sisney Pollack died the other day. Do you have a favorite film that he directed?

He made many fine films - I do love Tootsie and Three Days Of The Condor - those are probably my favorites.

And the word of the day is: SCRANNEL!

Might that be SCRANNEL?

My question for ASK BK day:

When you begin a murder mystery, do you pretty much know who the culprit will be?  Does this ever change in the course of the writing?

I do these very unconventionally, I'm told.  The truth is, on  a couple of them I've had an idea but wasn't sure.  On the others, I made a conscious decision not to know - in the new one, there were many it could have been, and I sort of went on the journey with the lead character, which was fun.

Beyond question, my favorite Pollack film is one of my very favorites: "Out of Africa".

And The Song Of The Day Is: SING

                                               (From A CHORUS LINE)

And I believe the Word Of The Day is spelled incorrectly One L and Two N's---SCRANNEL)

I don't know what any of you people are talking about. :)

Well, the cat's out of the bag.  The secret I was told a couple of weeks ago was made public today - the assistant manager of our department is leaving at the end of June to be director of a small nearby library system.  Between the manager and assistant manager positions, this will be the 9th turnover and 8th new person (last year the assistant became the manager) in the almost 11 years I've been here.  I thought I'd broken in my last manager before retiring.

I guess I am the only person in the world who doesn't like the movie TOOTSIE.  But then I may be the only person in the world who doesn't like Dustin Hoffman's performances.

My first question for ASK BK day....in years past, television and movie stars would now and then record a record album.

Did you buy any of them?  Which were your favorites....the good AND the bad.....

DR JRand, my interview with Roger Mobley will soon be in a film magazine near you....I hope.

I don't believe he is a minister any longer. I think he took another job, although I have not heard back from him of late.

He was excellent in an episode of DRAGNET as a hippie wanna be.

James Shigeta and Jeff Chandler...I enjoyed both very much!

And of course the Warner Bros performers all had some nifty albums.

Certainly I had one of Patty Duke's albums - not great then, not great now.

I had anything Hayley Mills recorded.

I think I bought George Chakiris's albums.

Those are the ones I remember.

When I was a young lad, the ads for Bob Hope and Elke Sommer in BOY DID I GET A WRONG NUMBER looked very spicy indeed

This morning, on my way to work, and on DearReaderLaura DR's recommendation, WING entertained me with her renditions of some of ABBA's greatest hits.

I nearly drove off the road!   :)
