I don't think I'm getting the CD with the extra tracks. There was much discussion at CastRecL about the extra tracks. I'm not a fan of these "exclusives" where you have to hunt down extra material. If you're putting it on one CD put it on all the CDs. I don't want to go to ITunes and download 7 tracks and then re-burn a CD so I can have everything they put out. It's insulting to the customer. And the music companies wonder why their business is going in the toilet! I know I'm part of a small niche market but don't spit on me and tell me it's raining.

It's just not fair. :P I've downloaded extra tracks for other CDs before, but I knew about them before I bought the original CDs.  I didn't even know that it was going to happen with this one. :-\

I offered to share a link with DRs wanting the extra tracks in the posts a few days ago.  Sadly, said link has since been disabled.  :(

Hi, everyone!  How is everybody today?  Well, it was pouring down rain here in Portland early A.M. but stopped for now and just cloudy but no rain, actually a bit brighter like the sun is trying at noon in Portland right now.

My sister and I are getting more and more excited about our trip to New York.  We are thinking of seeing Gypsy, Xanadu, possibly Young Frankenstein (basically for the cast for the last one), maybe more, we'll see.  Oh, I have got to go to the Cotton Club! One of Billie's hang outs!

Back from Mr. Geissman's and final book fixes.  I think we're done, plus he mocked up the back cover, too, so all we're waiting on now are blurbs - copies of the book will go out first thing in the mornign.

DR elmore3003, have you seen the following blurb for this forthcoming book?  Heck, perhaps you're in it!

The Sound of Broadway Music: A Book of Orchestrators and Orchestrations  (Oxford Univ Press - Hardcover Book)  By Steven Suskin.   Examines the careers of Broadway's major orchestrators and follows the song as it travels from the composer's piano to the orchestra pit. Suskin has meticulously tracked down thousands of original orchestral scores, piecing together enigmatic notes and notations with long-forgotten documents and current interviews with dozens of composers, producers, conductors and arrangers. Three main parts: a biographical section which gives a sense of the life and world of twelve major theatre orchestrators, as well as incorporating briefer sections on another thirty arrangers and conductors; a lively discussion of the art of orchestration, written for musical theatre enthusiasts (including those who do not read music); a biographical section which gives a sense of the life and world of twelve major theatre orchestrators, as well as incorporating briefer sections on another thirty arrangers and conductors; and an impressive show-by-show listing of more than six hundred musicals, in many cases including a song-by-song listing of precisely who orchestrated what along with relevant comments from people involved with the productions. Intriguing facts and juicy anecdotes, many of which have never before appeared in print.

I think watching episodes of HAWAII FIVE-O and MANDINGO would be a perfect way to spend a rainy afternoon.

Which I did along with some other things.

More later.

I began my afternoon of viewing by finishing up the last episode on disc 3 of NCIS, season 1. An excellent episode revolving around the leg of a Marine found in a dumpster. This one had a twist at the end that completely caught me off guard. Marvelous episode.

Next came MANDINGO. Not broad enough to be camp like VALLEY OF THE DOLLS but too terrible to be anything but a lousy movie.

It's the worst performance James Mason ever gave (of the ones I've seen), and almost every one of the white actors is horrible. Perry King is really trying hard to give a performance, but he can't do a reasonable Southern accent (none of the white actors can; Mason's and Susan George's are laughable). Boxer Ken Norton was cast as the fighting black mandingo stud, and though he has the body of a Greek god, he's been dubbed by an actor with a voice higher than Norton's own speaking voice and one that doesn't match the pumped-up body type at all.

Lillian Heyman does the best acting job as the plantation's "Mammy" character, known as Lucretia Borgia.

This must be an old video transfer because it's soft, too dark, filled with dirt specks. But it is enhanced for widescreen TVs so that's something at least.

I scanned through today's AS THE WORLD TURNS. Yes, the boys were on, but I'll be darned if I can figure out what Col. Crazy's game is. Very weird.

I ended the afternoon with the next HAWAII FIVE-O episode, but I only got about 20 minutes in. It's about a sniper and the police's attempts to capture him. So, no mystery with this; it's a straight crime drama episode.

Last night, I started watching a move on my DVR cache that I recorded Saturday off the sci-fi channel.

It's called "Infected" and stars Gil Bellows.

It's not bad, so far, but I fell asleep about 45 minutes into it.  I guess I snoozed a while.  I then woke up and went to bed at 10 p.m.

This morning, I got up before my alarm went off.  I turned off the alarm and got back into bed "just for a little snooze".  I woke up 50 minutes later.

I had to bypass the polling place this a.m.

I'll stop by on my way home.

Lousy mail call today.  Especially lousy because of some eBay items going on two weeks old that have not yet been received.

I know all about it. Steve's passed several questions on to me about it, and he's been working on it for several years. I'm looking forward to it very much. I know he's been interviewing, looking at scores, Don Walker's account books. The big reveal of the book will be how many shows Don Walker was credited for when nearlly next to nothing is written by him and helpers, such as Joe Glover, Sid Ramin, and others did the actual orchestration. A good contract can hide a lot of things.

I had a nice time at the library. On my way down I ran into my longtime friend Michael Lavine and we had a nice chat.

TOD: I like to marinate chicken breasts in a honey-soy sauce mix (with onions and garlic), then cook them on the grill. It is not as good cooked in the oven.

When I moved into my office last summer I got my own new central air unit that just cools my office. (why I don't know)   Today we got a call that there is a leak in the building so that the bathrooms are closed and we are the only office in the building with air conditioning because we have our own new unit. LOL  I feel so cool!

Even that won't keep me here any longer.  I am going home.  I have to try to fix my garbage disposal. Oh joy.  the little tool I need wasn't left in the house, so I had to improvise and buy a hex wrench that I'm hoping will fit.  I spent a whopping 90 cents on it. if it doesn't work, I'll have to get a repair person.
