I've heard various and sundry reasons, but since none of them are from Steve or Jonathan, they're only rumors. I suspect the reasons have more to do with their schedules. After the failure of MERRILY WE ROLL ALONG, Steve told me he would never write another show and he was going to write video games. Jonathan may have been busy with other commitments when Steve came out of his funk. Also, Starobin had been working with Lapine on the William Finn shows and Lapine may have been pushing for him. I offer two possibilities, and both could be wrong.

"Steve told me..."  I could just die!

TOD:

Take two slices of white bread.  
Place them on the counter.
Open a can of Spam and cut contents into 8 even slices.

Open a box of Velveeta.  Cut two slices.

Cover one slice of bread with Hellman's Mayonnaise.

Place Two Pieces of the Spam on the bread.  Place Two Pieces of Velveeta on top of the Spam.

Place the second slice of bread on top.  Slice the sandwich into two pieces making sure that one slice of Spam stays on each side of the knife.

Enjoy lunch.  Especially good with root beer Kool-Aid or a Tab.

I have always thought that Spam was best when served with a Fresca.

I'm up, I'm up.  I awoke to no Internet service.  After exhausting all possible fixes, I suddenly realized I probably was delinquent on a bill - I've gotten into the habit of paying by phone (I don't really know why) and I just forgot.  So, I called, paid, and here I be.  I hate my occasional senility and should probably go back to writing checks.

BK, use an online calendar to arrange what days you need to pay the bills; then you will get little pop up reminders that will help prevent senility.

The other day, Zach was pulling a bit as we stepped out of the house.  I lost my balance and my forearm scraped quite a distance along the top of the very rusty wrought iron railing lining the steps.  I got some nasty looking gashes and scrapes.  But they are now starting to heal up.  And I think I disinfected it well enough, so that's good.  

When was your last tetanus booster?

-And looking at the Broadway grosses from last week, it seems that almost everyone got hit pretty hard by the traditional post-Memorial Day weekend "burst"...  Which means we'll be entering the traditionally slow(er) Summer Season soon - if we're not already there.  And there are still the post-Tony closings to await.

Miss Frances Farmer was in a production of the show in October, 1965, she designed her own makeup and happened to be wearing most of it when she ran her Edsel into the median of the highway on the way back to Indy from West Lafayette one evening.

The Visit - ŕ la Mssrs. Kander, Ebb & McNally - is currently being presented down in Arlington, VA, at Signature Theatre with a cast headed by Chita Rivera, George Hearn and Mark Jacoby.  This is a regional production which is supposed to be followed by another regional production.  As for a Broadway incarnation, well...  

The Washington Post reviewer called it, "an admirable if not consistently embraceable musical."

The above recipe is from one of Nick Malgieri's books.  I've made it a few times, but have found that it doesn't necessarily come together the way it "sounds" like it should in the published recipe. -And I have found a couple of comments online along the same lines.  In any case, here are some of my notes:

Matcha is the Japanese Green Tea that is used for the traditional tea ceremony.  It is powdered.  If you can’t find proper matcha, then it is very easy to grind your own leaves in a clean coffee-spice grinder.  It will take about 3 to 4 four tablespoons of tea leaves to make the 2 tablespoons of powder.  As for the type of tea to buy, Gyokura is the right type.  If you can’t find that, any good quality green tea will work.  And if all you can find are tea bags, then just cut them open and empty them into the coffee grinder – that’s what I had to do!  You can also experiment with the type of tea in this recipe.

This batter comes together very “interestingly”.  When you fold the egg whites into the batter, you will deflate a lot of the whites.  I actually think there is something missing in the recipe, but it seems to come out fine.

Additionally, the original recipe calls for 2 pans, but I think it would make a more traditionally looking pound cake if made in one pan.  –Or in two smaller loaf pans, 8 x 4.

In other news...

It was another glorious day here in NYC.  A good day for wandering.

First I wandered down to Times Square to pick up the OCR of In The Heights at Virgin.  Then I wandered down to Bryant Park, but since the lawn sprinklers were on, I then wandered over to Grand Central Terminal.

After some Kumamotos and Malepeques at the Oyster Bar (SLURP!  YUM!), I then wandered up Madison Ave.

I eventually cut west across to Central Park once I reached 79th Street.  I decided to take a breather, and sat down in the middle of Cedar Hill.  After completing today's NY Times Crossword Puzzle, I then wandered over to the west side, grabbed a sandwich for dinner at Lenny's, and headed on home on the C Train from 96th Street.

According to Playbill, the revival of A Chorus Line will close in August.  So much for Mr. Lopez's drawing power - grosses are pretty low for the last few weeks, barely above 50%
