Wish I could have been on that lingerie sale!  *wondering how long it takes to drive from Portland, OR, to Lasenza in Canada* :)

Well maybe not that long if i lived in Vancouver. But I live in Montreal!

Jose, I remember you'd heard about it, too, when we first discussed it a couple of years ago, when I was in NY doing the Starfighter reading - how can that be TWO years ago?

My idea for the final cast member of the Nudie reading didn't work out - it would have if the gentleman were not going to China early the next morning.

I remember going to one in NYC.  There are a lot of them here (in most malls). And a big one downtown!

I just remember being surprised at how many stores they opened here in NYC.  They had a great flagship store on Broadway a couple blocks up from Tower Records- which made for some crazy "Who has the best sale? shopping".  Then they opened a couple smaller stores all over town in some pretty prime locations - including one off of Times Square.  Over-exposure and over-saturation among other issues.

But, I really did love shopping at HMV.  Since they were/are a London-based company, their Classical Import selection was always a pleasure to browse. *And their Classical Annex had its own "store" and entrance, so there was no "outside music" to deal with from other sections of the store.  Additionally, they would automatically put any new Broadway releases on sale when they came out, and they would stay on sale for a couple of weeks.

I, too, like HMV very much.  I used to love to do that run to HMV and Tower during my visits, and then immediately cab it to Footlight.

I'm getting a slow start this morning, but will rev up momentarily.  I have a couple of errands to do first, then I'll be starting show one at the piano, after which, a break, after which show two, after which I must listen to a bunch of Kevin Spirtas mp3s of material for the show we're doing (I HATE working this long distance way where I can't be in the room with the pianist), then I have to listen to a couple of other mp3s.

I have a cooking question, if DR Jose doesn't leave before i type it.

I am cooking some chicken on the BBQ tonight (grill outside).

How long would i have to boil it for first so that i won't have to keep it on the grill forever?

I really have no clue (i'm emailing my mom after i type this to see what she thinks). I guess i would want to keep it on the grill for like 20 minutes max.

I have a friend who works in Hong Kong for Disney.  Usually the first meal he has when he travels back to the States is "real Chinese food", since the "real food" he has in China does not sit well with him.  ;)

Re:  Cheers.  My sister-in-law was Production Manager on that series for most of its run (as well as a million other tv shows and films).  Their house is full of lots of memorabilia from the show, including directors' chairs and a really neat artist's rendering of the bar that I think hung on the set toward the back.  On the final two-part episode (the one where Shelley Long came back), they had all the production staff appear as extras in the bar, and you can see DS Betsy's brother and his wife (the production manager) stage right sitting in one of the booths pretending to have a conversation.  :)

That's what I've heard.  Do you know what the big differences are?  Are the dishes similar?

Betsy's parents attended the taping of the final episode, unaware of its historic import.  They evidently found the studio too cold and were uncomfortable there for several hours.  ;)

Boil it?  There's no need to boil it.  You can cook it all on the grill.

However, I have heard of people cooking their chicken in the kitchen first - boiling, baking, broiling - the finishing it on the grill to add that BBQ/grill/smoke taste to it.  -But that just sort of defeats the purpose of grilling, imho.

Are you doing bone-in parts?  boneless chicken breasts?

In general, setting up a "hot spot" and "not so hot" spot on your grill helps.

Sorry, DR Jose, that's what i meant, cooking it in the kitchen first.

Boiling it in the kitchen first. Because otherwise it would take forever!

The chicken has bones, yes.  It's not a full chicken. It's chicken legs (well i think that is what they call that cut at the supermarket).

The main differences - which are understandable - are the truly authentic ingredients: vegetables, spices, oils.  He's been invited to many a formal and informal Chinese dinner where he hasn't been able to identify what he was eating.  -And his hosts couldn't really explain what he was about to eat either - at least not in English.  His biggest problem is the seasoning and spicing - and not necessarily the "heat" factor.  The range of flavors in Hong Kong is far greater than it is Stateside.

My dad has been to china. And i think the food there is much different than what we imagine it to be.

It's not chinese food like here. And especially if you don't speak the language. I think he just had to point to what he wanted. aNd hope for the best. :)

This begs the question, are there any really authentic Chinese restaurants in the US?

Well, if you were planning on putting it on the grill for 20 minutes after precooking it, you'd have some pretty over-cooked chicken.

Just treat the grill as you would a saute pan and oven in regards to cooking times.  It's just a different way to get the heat into the chicken, a different method of cooking.

Here's a general chart of grilling times from AllRecipes.com:

Breasts
6 to 8 ounces  Direct     Medium /High   10 to 15 min./side   165 F (75 C)

Boneless Breasts
4 ounces   Direct   High   6 to 8 min./side   165 F (75 C)

Legs or Thighs
4 to 8 ounces   Direct   Medium /High   10 to 15 min./side   165 F (75 C)

Drumsticks
4 ounces   Direct   Medium /High   8 to 12 min./side   165 F (75 C)

Wings
2 to 3 ounces   Direct   Medium /High   8 to 12 min./side   165 F (75 C)

Every middle-aged man that I know who could read this role is out of town right now - isn't that funny?  I may ask the guy who's playing General Mills, but he's way down in Orange County.  Or, maybe I'll just drop Barry Pearl a note - he knows everyone.
