If I remember Beef Wellington correctly, the dough is just around the edges of the meat, and there is a layer of pate between dough and meat. I had it at the late great Perino's and somewhere on the Sunset Strip - and both times it was really faboo.

I see Beef Wellington on menus every now and then. Maybe I'll order it the next time I see it. -I think the last time I had Beef Wellington was at a New Year's Eve celebration about 15 years ago.

Hmm... Maybe I'll head to Barney Greengrass today for the 100 Year Anniversary Celebration for lunch - or at least to see how long the lines are. To celebrate their 100 Year Anniversary, they are rolling back their prices to what they were in 1908! That's a lotta smoked fish!

re: the new Annie recording:

I hate the "additional" new orchestrations - they turn the original pit band "sound" of Phil Lang into muzak. Also, the Bratislava musicians play the notes on the page, but to me they don't have the sense of this style of music. It just sounds "off" to me, somehow. The child playing the title role is fine, but is none too subtle. I dislike the singing voices of most of the other actors in the leading roles. The choral arrangements have been gussied up, too - and not always for the best. When I want to listen to this score, I'll return to the OBC.

The booklet is done nicely, and it is good to have recordings on the supplemental disc of some of the songs for Annie 2.

I agree about the orchestrations, while they sound full and such, I miss this ricked-y sound of the OBC. The extra choral parts have been added through the years as I recognize the "new" parts on the recording as things I've heard before. I love Annie and it's great to have a complete recording of the score.

Agreed. The "band" does not swing.

Alas, due to lots of tweaking over the years, from what I understand, the choral arrangements on the recording are now THE choral arrangements for anyone mounting a "first class" productions - whatever that means nowadays.
