Back from Costco. Wasn't as hellish as usual. Got some meat, some veggies, fruit, fiber-one bars and a bike helmet. (and other boring stuff)

Had a great afternoon of entertainment.

I began by finishing season 1 of NCIS. A very surprising denouement in the search for the terrorist. Took me completely by surprise.

Next, I watched ROBIN AND THE SEVEN HOODS. The movie has always been too long and sluggishly directed, but I sure like many of the songs in that score, and I watched "Style" twice just to enjoy the swinging melody of it.

The DVD looked quite wonderful. No age related specks to speak of and the color was wonderfully saturated. I watched it upconverted, and it looked worlds better than the muddy laserdisc I've been suffering with for many years. Mono sound, of course, but it's always been that.

I had some time left over in the afternoon so I watched some numbers from the musical version of THE PRODUCERS: "Keep It Gay" and "Springtime for Hitler." Yes, the movie is a slog, but it looks wonderful on DVD.

I understand there is a Japanese Blu-ray version of the film that plays in all regions of Blu-ray players, but I don't like the movie enough to want it. The used DVD copy I have is all I need.

I watched the Luke and Noah scenes in today's AS THE WORLD TURNS. Eh. Go looking for someone else, Luke. That's my advice.

Speaking of Iowa flooding: NBC News opened last night with a feature on Cedar Falls, which just happens to be where a gaggle of my cousins and my one surviving Aunt live (her late husband was dean of the Teachers' College there for many, many years). And lo and behold, there was my cousin Bob filling sandbags on the news last night! It was kind of cool to see him on the national news, but a sad occasion nonetheless.
