After the Neil Diamond appearance in a Mannix episode, I knew they'd have to have the obligatory "hippie" episode and I wondered who'd be the musical group - sure enough, I was right, and the group was Buffalo Springfield with most of the closeups going to Stephen Sills.

Also in the episode, an impossibly young Tom Skerritt, Phil Leeds (as a guru!), the ever-present Brooke Bundy, and another score by Jerry Fielding.

Mic could have used a costume designer.  Or at least a dresser.

I find it so odd to give major awards like choreography and book of a musical and play revival on this pre-show.  How disrespectful can you get.  And I think we'll see the usual unnecessary palaver and non-nominated numbers that take up time that could have been used to present those two awards as part of the broadcast - it would take all of three minutes, you know.

Well.. Since it really was not such a great year for Choreography on Broadway...  And two of the Plays in the Revival category are already closed.  *As are two of the nominees in the (new) Play category.

Just sayin', I guess.

Sound Design, Musical: Scott Lehrer, South Pacific.  Which they of course underscore with West Side Story.

All the bumpers are pre-recorded - and have been used in previous Tony broadcasts.  They are basically just in a set order and run in a loop.

*And from what I could tell, some of the bumpers during the "live" show may end up being pre-records too.

Because, after all, it is a night celebrating live theatre.   ::)

-With a good chunk of the orchestra down in the basement of RCMH... by the loading dock.  (Like some of them are for the Christmas Spectacular too). :-\

I like the old days - you know, when they put the orchestra where they belong - in an orchestra pit.

-And during the dress rehearsal, Patti LuPone "suggested" the Producers of the Tonys to "put the orchestra in the pit!!!".

*That's when I cheered.

Awww... I was hoping that Anna Louizos would have gotten this one for her amazing incarnation of Washington Height/Inwood on stage at the Richard Rodgers.

I'm heading downstairs now to watch the regular show on the HDTV and type on the laptop. Be prepared for many typos.
