Marty, the show buyer, has told me he's having trouble with his bosses - if he leaves, no one there will even know how to order show CDs.  And they don't care.  Marty actually asked me to send him twenty more EP CDs a few weeks ago, telling me I'd be paid for this invoice the day he got back on June 5th.  Thank heaven I didn't send him the second order.  Of course, I will never sell to them again, I just hate to eat the invoice.  So, if any NYs would like to go in and ask for the EP CD that would be great.  Ask them when they'll have them in.  Make it seem like there's a demand because it's close to selling out.

In the meantime, Sony has moved up its Sondheim box set release date (in the works for four years now) completely because I put out the EP CD.  They were always going to include the songs (but not any of the underscore tracks) - once I announced EP suddenly the producer told his bosses that they'd better move pronto.  At that point it was slated for end of year, and those in the know didn't think they'd even make that.  I guess we've done  everyone a service.  So, I'd love to get rid of the rest of these CDs before the box comes out.  Right now they haven't announced WHAT the unreleased tracks are, not that they can call the EP tracks unreleased now :)

At some point, hopefully it will be easier to pay me than have to endure the barrage they're about to get.  As to taking the story public - let them bring it on.  I'm sure I'm not the only one they're doing this to - and you know what - they're not going to do anything anyway.

Can you write this kind of thing off your taxes?

I don't know, but I guess you could conceivably say those were lost CDs or unpaid for CDs because, of course, I'm out both CDs and payment.  They've made plenty of dough, though.

I've only ever had this problem with one other dealer and that was Dress Circle and it became so annoying that I just stopped selling to them.  It's really not worth the aggravation for a few hundred bucks.

That's their Plan B.  After Plan A of trying to prevent Kritzerland's release didn't work.    :-\

OSCAR ALTERS SONG, FOREIGN FILM RULES

Only two songs per film can be nominated at the 81st Academy Awards. And the foreign language film committee will have more say in determining nominees.

By Mark Olsen, Special to The Times
12:41 PM PDT, June 19, 2008

It's only June, but there's already some intrigue in the impending awards season.

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences approved the rules for the upcoming 81st Academy Awards at a meeting Tuesday night. Rule changes in the categories of original song and foreign language film seemed to be a direct result from controversies during last year's awards season.

For best song, there is no limit to the number of songs that may be submitted from a given film, but only two songs from any one film may now actually receive a nomination. As you may recall, for the 80th Academy Awards, the film "Enchanted" was nominated for three songs, shutting out such once-presumptive nominees as Eddie Vedder for his songs from "Into the Wild." The previous year, "Dreamgirls" was also nominated for three songs.

The screening event at which music branch members view clips of eligible songs will still be held, but DVDs of the clips will be made available to members unable to attend the screening.

I think I'm done with my errands for the day.  Has anyone gotten a single item like a CD or DVD from amazon in the last week?  If so, did it come in the usual amazon.com package or did it come in a padded envelope.  I got something in a padded envelope - an absolute first for amazon and not a good way for them to ship, frankly.

Some here might even go so far as to think that I should be held in a padded mailer for safety.

Of myself and/or others.

I think you come out best treating it as a bad debt - that way the entire value (including profit) is deducted.

I was surprised to discover the song "Joshua Noveck" on the Broadway Bound CD.  It has been heard and recorded many times since, but I had forgotten that this was where I first enountered it.

Gold Derby by Tom O'Neil

Quote
TONY AWARD WINNAHS GET BOX-OFFICE BUMP

For those who wonder why the producers of Broadway shows work so hard to win Tony Awards, the answer lies in the dramatic uptick in takings following exposure on Sunday night's CBS telecast. Even with increased competition meaning decreased ratings as of late (last year it was the series finale of "The Sopranos" while this year it was merely a NBA finalist game), the 6 million or so who do tune in to the Tony Awards are definite theater fans.

As per Variety, they voted for the winners on Monday with best musical "In the Heights" racking up a cool million in sales while best revival "South Pacific" took in $700K. But these increased ticket sales don't come cheap. According to the exec producer of Lincoln Center Theater, staging the showstopping "South Pacific" medley on the Tony Awards cost $240,000. And "Heights" had to reach for close to $200K to put together its ensemble number.

In a break with Tony tradition, even new tuners that didn't make the final four were featured, albeit in abbreviated fashion. And old chestnuts like "The Lion King," which opened the telecast, and the soon to be closing "Rent," which brought back the original cast for one last number, also benefitted from the not so free publicity. And with host Whoopi Goldberg regarded as the best booster of Broadway since Rosie O'Donnell, hopes are that the sales will continue to rise into the summer.

I'd overlook the misspelling of "benefited" if the author at least acknowledged the competition of the PGA Open Telecast with Tiger Woods.

On the other hand, Joyce Haber was a b***h.  Totally untrustworthy.  She even, on occasion, did J. Edgar Hoover's dirty work.

I thought Clyde Tolson took care of Hoover's............ uhhh, dirty work.

Actually, his name is Michael Ausiello. He's always got great information about TV shows and behind-the-scenes happenings with the stars. He begins at ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY the first week of July.

Thank you, Matt H.  I knew you would know his name.  Now, if you could just help me with some of his blind items.............
