Back home.  I took a nice two mile walk up in the hills - haven't done that in ages.  My legs were a bit too sore to jog, so I thought a nice power walk up hill and down would be good and it was.

I am having trouble understanding DD Sherlock's exact problem.  Is DR Jane saying that a foxtail spiky plant is embedded inside his paw?     :-\

We are having the same issue.  The doctor at the vet thinks there is a strong possibility he has a foxtail in his foot.  This looks very much like the same problem he had a couple of months ago I referred to as the "whatever".  The other vet, our regular vet, didn't think that was  foxtail.  When we saw this new thing, that looked like the old one only not as bad, we figured it was the same.  We began with the paw soaks & expected the vet to give Sherlock an antibiotic to take, not to need surgery.

The problem with foxtails is the only way to know for sure is to go in and look for them.  So we scheduled the exploratory surgery.

This morning we chickened out and canceled.  We are doing the paw soaks & have him on antibiotics & praying it isn't a foxtail.  We have a follow up appointment for Tuesday afternoon.

If Sherlock were in any kind of pain or limping we wouldn't hesitate, but he isn't & it looks 100% better today after the antibiotic shot yesterday.

DerBrucer, thank you for the "dangers of foxtails" post.  Obviously it was a difficult decision to make not having the surgery.  Sometimes you have to go with your gut feeling, and we were both having that same feeling.

But why is the cat held captive and not allowed to roam free?

Amy

So it doesn't get hit by a car, locked in neighbor's garages, attacked by a wild animal, kill birds, etc.  I could go on and on.

And just because it hasn't been aid, and because I've thought strongly about not saying it, but because I feel it must be said, especially since it's what I've avoided saying since seeing a certain photograph:

D o o d y!

My reaction, exactly. We humans write out yellow names in snow, Zach has his own way of drawing on the sidewalk.

Those are all very good guesses, but none of them are exactly what I was looking for. The cat is white with blue eyes. 85% of all white blue-eyed cats are deaf. Therefore, she can't hear cars coming or coyotes nearby. I've always had indoor/outdoor cats in the past and it's true they don't live as long (mine lived 10 years), but sometimes I think if I could give a cat the choice between living 10 years, getting to run free and chase butterflies, or 20 years cooped up in a boring house, they'd choose the shorter life. My concern with this cat is that because she is deaf, she wouldn't even make it 10 years.

Amy

My sister and niece have an indoor/outdoor (mainly outdoor) cat, Casper, who is 14 or 15 years old.  They live in a cul-de-sac and there are other cats in the area with no dogs, so Casper's been living the good life.

Thanks for the info!  However, the library where I work is going to order five copies of the CD.  Since they repackage digipak CDs into heavy-duty-library-use plastic jewel cases (and throw away the original plastic hubs), I was just going to swap out one of the library copies for mine. ;) It's a win-win situation and Ghostlight won't have to pay postage to get it to me. :) Of course, this is only because the library is ordering this particular CD.

Back after a lovely nap and a little bit of Chocolate Cordial Pie.  It's not something you can eat in one sitting, but it's so-o-o-o tasty.

A pity Mr Barker's writing does not work as film! "Hell Raiser" was so bad! (and Mr Barker directed - which may have been the problem!).

A friend of mine wrote the HELLRAiSER II & III scripts (he's British, as well) so I'm going to blame Mr. Barker! :-)

He met my girlfriend and former editing assistant on III (he also wrote the story for that one) and they fell in love and married here in GA before moving out to LA. We had breakfast with them when we were out there for the SACCO AND VANZETTI premiere.

He said he was working on a film with Errol Morris but I don't know what's happening with it...

Got my shopping and banking done in record time. For some reason, the grocery store had very few people in it today.

Not for the squeamish, The Humane Society video of the largest puppy mill rescue in Tennessee history.

I have such admiration for the people who fight so hard to protect these dogs.

Not to rub salt in wounds, but I did receive my second big order from Deep Discount today, pretty much a week after receiving the first one.

This completes my purchases during their annual summer sale.

BTW, for those interested, the GLAAD Awards on Bravo start at 7 p.m. tonight (not 8 as I erroneously stated this morning) and last until 9, so it IS a two hour show.

There is a production with Peter Pears and Peter Glossop that will be released on DVD July 8, 2008.  It's probably not the version you want, but I thought you should know about itl.

I do, thank you. It was pretty much the same cast used by Britten for the first LP recording of the work. Ufortunately, neither Sir Thomas allen nor Peter Glossop is particularly my idea of a Bily Budd.

I was not able to watch Kathy Griffin's MY LIFE ON THE D-LIST today. DUring the recording last night, something was wrong with the audio transmission, and a loud "yowling" sound was recorded for the entire show. I just deleted it, and set the DVR to pick up the next broadcast which will be sometime tomorrow. So I won't see it probably until Sunday.

Has Rodney Gilfry's "Billy Budd" never turned up on a recording?  (I'll bet he has a copy on tape!)

Instead, I watched Monday's episode of THE MOLE while I cooked and ate lunch. Good show, but I was as upset as one of the contestants when their diaries got deliberately burned.

I am pretty sure I know who the mole is, though, so now I can be watchful of his every move.

None was given in the article I saw.  Just a series of pictures taken by the photographer as Farrell begain charging at him.  The caption under that photo called Farrell "toned"!

My college roommate called me while I was watching stuff this afternoon, so we had a nice 20 minute conversation catching up on stuff. He's great friends with Jeanne Cooper and was delirious about her finally winning the Emmy last Friday night. He and his family are flying out to LA next week and will be having dinner with Jeanne one night of their vacation.
