Good morning, all! Back to Ms Criswell's orchestra parts, and that's how I will spend all of today and perhaps most of tomorrow.
"New" musicals: too much
sturm und drang over an adjective. The only things this debate is good for are publicity, hostility, and needless angst. The word "new" implies exactly what it is to an audience. If a show has received no major production, no subsequent tour, no film and/or Zadan-Meron butchershop job for television, chances are the only persons it isn't new to are the writers. The David Evans-Winnie Holzman musical AMATEURS had a major full-scale production at Cincinnati's Playhouse in the Park several years before it ended up at the Promenade as BIRDS OF PARADISE, so I see no problem wth calling THE TIMES a new show.
