I'm here working away because I'm leaving early for the holiday. At about 2:30 I'm off to Long Island until Sunday evening. I'll be in and out but mostly out.

Later, gaters.

Have a very nice long weekend.

In a slight variation of Michael S.'s post, if anyone reads this, please quote it and then send me $35.  Thank you.

I went to see an amazing film last night with a friend. THE FALL has some of the most stunningly beautiful cinematography that I've seen in recent memory. It wasn't over until 12:15 and then I was wide awake afterwards, thinking about it and didn't get to sleep until 2. So I'm at work and kind of tired today!

Here's a link to the trailer. After seeing the film, I think this is one of the best trailers I've ever seen, because it makes the film look so intriguing without giving anything away.

Oh, and part of the visual feast--lots of beautiful men on display!

Thank you :)

BK, WWW.OLDIES.COM is releasing several Barry Sisters albums onto CD later this month. I have never heard them, but I might like to take a listen.

I'm pretty sure Keith made a CD for his mother a few years ago which included several of their songs.

Much to my delight and sheer relief, the two Criterion discs did arrive today. I did not want to spend another semi-sleepless night worrying over their arrival.

The house is now being air-cooled, that's central A/C, that is. Yep, had to break down and turn it back on, and the second I did, it immediately snapped on showing just how warm and stuffy the house had gotten. I was sitting in front of an open window with a fan blowing on me in my office, so it hadn't dawned on me that the rest of the house was stifling. Much better now.

I began my afternoon with another MURDER SHE WROTE from the final disc in the season 8 box. Jessica is in Mexico City where a local gangster is murdered. I had never seen this episode, but I did guess the murderer's identity pretty easily. To my surprise, James Coburn was the central guest star; I never knew he had guested on MURDER SHE WROTE. This was some years before he won the Oscar. Also in the cast were Gregory Sierra and Shelley Morrison.

Next, I watched Mishima's PATRIOTISM. Obviously I had never seen it before, but what exotic, erotic, arresting, and disturbing images! And what a gorgeous man he was!

I watched all of the bonuses, too, though I wish the five crew members from PATRIOTISM had had a little more of substance to say.

Knowing that he committed hara-kiri in real life in 1970, all the talk about ritual suicide (and the representation of it in PATRIOTISM) is creepy beyond belief.

I ended the afternoon skimming through AS THE WORLD TURNS. Nice plug for Cyndy Lauper's CD and tour, but I fast forwarded through all of that. The Noah storyline goes maddeningly again into fantasyland. I kept hoping Reg would appear from the shadows and scoop up Luke and take him away.

Those two boys are so screwed up, I think a straight writer's trying to write gay and failing. I'm much happier now the psycho bitch is dead.

Don't you just know that Luke is going to go to the recruiter's office and out Noah to them so they'll have to use "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" to turn Noah down and then that will give Noah something else to hate him for.

Some more Emmy semifinalist lists:

Guest Drama Actors:

Keith Carradine, Dexter
Charles Durning, Rescue Me
Danny Glover, Brothers & Sisters
Robert Morse, Mad Men
Peter O'Toole, The Tudors
Oliver Platt, Nip/Tuck
Peter Riegert, Damages
Stanley Tucci, ER
Glynn Turman, In Treatment
Robin Williams, Law & Order: Special Victims Unit

When I saw Peter O'Toole's billing as "Special Guest Star" in the credits for THE TUDORS, I knew then we'd be seeing his name in this list. I'll bet he wins, too. Frankly, of the seven on the list I've seen, I wouldn't give it to any of them.

Supporting Comedy Actress:

Kristin Chenoweth, Pushing Daisies
Conchata Ferrell, Two and a Half Men
Jenna Fischer, The Office
Jane Krakowski, 30 Rock
Judith Light, Ugly Betty
Elizabeth Perkins, Weeds
Amy Poehler, Saturday Night Live
Jean Smart, Samantha Who?
Holland Taylor, Two and a Half Men
Vanessa Williams, Ugly Betty

Biggest surprise here is the omission of Jaime Pressly (who won it last year) for MY NAME IS EARL.

The vet that suggested we go exploring inside Sherlock’s paw for the foxtail called today to check on Sherlock.  This vet is basically retired & fills in once or twice a week for our regular vet.  It was nice of him to remember Sherlock, check his records & notice we didn’t to the surgery.  When I explained how well & how quickly the paw healed he was very pleased & said that is a good indication the foxtail did not remain in the paw.  He still thinks a foxtail caused the infection.
