Does England have July 4th?

Yes--I'm told it regularly occurs between July 3rd and 5th.

Jesse Helms has shuffled off this mortal coil.  Don't let that spoil your fourth.  ;)

No, it won't spoil it at all, and I'm just sorry he didn't meet his maker earlier rather than inflict all the damage of ill feelings and hate he did for far too long.

I got my answer about the grocery store. When I pulled into the parking lot, it looks relatively empty, so I was heartened by that. But once inside, it was crowded. Not as jammed as I've seen it, but still quite full, and the self-check lane (which has four kiosks) was full with two people ahead of me.

I watched the first MURDER SHE WROTE episode while I cooked and ate lunch. It featured Darrin McGavin as a well known playwright being terrorized by person or persons unknown. Also in the guest cast were Stephen Bogardus, Ken Kercheval, and Austin Pendleton.

Just as I was finishing up lunch and rinsing off my dish to set in the dishwasher, a friend dropped by for a visit, and he stayed almost an hour. We had a nice talk and some laughs, but by the time he left, it was too late to start MISHIMA and finish it this afternoon as I had originally planned.

I therefore made the executive decision that today will be a holiday for me, and I will view nothing to write about but only stuff for fun.

So, the first order of business was to finish watching the remaining two episodes of MURDER SHE WROTE in the season 8 set.

The next one featured an old friend of Seth's coming back to Cabot Cove and getting mixed up in a murder. Gerald O'Laughlin and Robert Lansing were among the guest stars in this episode. I had seen it before and remembered who the murderer was.

And the season finale involved a toy manufacturer helping Jessica develop a board game called "Murder Will Out." John Hillerman played the toymaker, and others in the guest cast included Angela's nephew David Lansbury and Barbara Babcock.

I had time left over to skim through today's AS THE WORLD TURNS. Even though he wasn't in the previews, Luke was on the show today for a couple of scenes with his father. He was in the previews, too, doing exaactly what I predicted yesterday when I wrote about the show.

-And as expected and planned, it was a very easy day of rehearsal for me.  I had about an hour's worth of music clean-up to take care of this morning, and then the rest of the day was devoted to revisiting and refreshing "Cirque Asia" - in which there is no singing.  So, I was able to spend some time cleaning up and marking and re-marking my score for the Vocal Captain.  Best of all, we finished at 3:00!

When I got back to the hotel, I started the first part of my "departure procedure".  I gathered my trash and put it in the garbage can.  I checked the various drawers for any stray items, and I made sure to start charging all the necessary personal electronics (iPod, camera, cell phone).  My luggage is basically already packed - I put all my clothes away the other night after doing my laundry.  So, come the morning, all I really have to do is put the rest of my clothes in my bag, and head down to the lobby.

There are no plans right now for anyone to head out to catch any fireworks, but I'm pretty sure I'll be staying put and watching some of them on TV, and then try to get a few hours of sleep before I have to head downstairs.

Glad the stores were empty DR MattH. I am hoping the freeway is the same as I must hie myself to the Portland airport soon to pick up an out-of-towner from Baghdad.

And I finished AN EVENING IN PARIS...it was a rather fluffy little romantic comedy with not much of a plot...mainly a showcase for some really fun musical numbers.
