Good morning, all! I decided my self-indulgent intermezzo had to end and this sleeping late had to stop.

Today, more critical notes for Toyland and several telephonic conversations,

First, coffee.

TOD:
I've always preferred vocal music to purely orchestral literature, but I would have to put Tschikovsky's and Dvorak's symphonies at the top of my list, especiaslly Dvorak Symphony No. 8 for its glorious themes.

It's been a very productive past few days. As I mentioned, we have a working cell phone. I activated it yesterday and now it will sit unused until Anthony comes back to the city and begins to use it to become familiar with it. I've updated things on three computers (our desktop here in the city, our laptop here in the city and the computer on Long Island) and I now have a ticket to Madison, WI. I will be seeing a certain production of How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying starring (well, almost) a certain referenced actor on this site. I got a great deal (considering the price of airfares). $273 round trip on Continental and it's nonstop!

I'll be a busy traveler in August and September because I'm going to Minnesota for a weekend in early August, after Anthony leaves for Wisconsin. Remember when flying used to be fun?

Good Morning Dear Larry!

It's supposed to be hot and muggy today. I turned on the air conditioner last night. Global warming? I'd rather live in the snow than the heat. That's why I can't retire to Arizona or Florida (sorry Kerry, Laura and Lyn and Michael Shayne and Danise).

Someone sent me a Page once.  He was kind of cute, but that constant heralding got to be a nuisance after a while.

Well, I'm leaving in 15 minutes to start my new job.  I really hope it goes well and that I like it and that it is not too difficult to learn.  We shall see.  Anyhow, just wanted to hop on and say hi.  Will let you all know how the new job is going tonight.  Everyone have a great day!  TOP: Beethoven's 5th

Last night's rehearsal was so bad and so embarrassing, that it was difficult to watch.....and do not know what will happen tonight.  I cannot get a couple of people to listen....or LEARN their lines....and it may be fatal to the show...it will be fatal to the show.

I feel badly for the rest of the cast....I really have never directed a show that turned out this way....it is depressing.

Good Morning!

I'm up, I'm up...  And I already have a headache.  Actually, I went to bed with a headache - a pesky sinus one - and, I believe, I'm still dealing with it.  Ah, well.

As for the Topic of the Day...

I shall compile a representative listing whilst I sit waiting for possible "Wonderettes" to come in to the room to audition today.

And speaking of vocal music...  I heard from a friend over the weekend that Dame Joan Sutherland broke her hip while she was gardening sometime last week.

I have that CD too!

And as much as adore the Hanson, I bought the CD for the Barber.  The first movement of that violin concerto has an achingly beautiful theme.  -And the piano reduction of the orchestra "part" works very well too.

-And keeping with concerted concerto works: the second movement of Ravel's Piano Concerto in G.

Michelangeli's recording always seems to rank high up on people's lists in regards to a recording of this work, however, I also like Martha Argerich's very visceral rendition.  But the one I go to most often is Krystian Zimerman with the Cleveland Orchestra under Pierre Boulez (on DG).  Some exquisite playing, and very good recording, technically speaking.

Well... Time for me to head down to 34th Street.  Well, actually 35th Street, but I have to take the train down to 34th Street/Penn Station.  However, I can exit right at 35th Street from the station, so...  In any case...

Laters...
