DR Jennifer, the simple answer is if they wanted to prosecute you could go to prison for violating copyright law. I have a client who was prosecuted for selling copies of computer programs on eBay.  There was a brief time when the government went after people downloading and sharing music.

There are groups out there who monitor what is being sold, posted etc.  If someone is profiting, then they may be looking at prosecution. If not, then they will sometimes be stopped.

Having the work out there without anyone paying for the right to show it would be like going to work everyday and not being paid because the people you come in contact with want whatever it is you do for free.  I'm sure there are many who would think that's a great deal

Since you are an attorney, just a question, if someone checks out CD's from a public library and downloads it to their own collection but doesn't sell any of those things, just keeps for their own collection is all, is that considered illegal?  Just curious.

DR Vixmom, Well, I'm called a HOPE Specialist, I'm still learning what that is exactly.  It is for Wilshire Financial Services in Oregon.  I know we help with possible payment arrangements on mortgages and such.  Just my first day and I have no experience in this area but they are willing to train.

Probably, but no one is going to do anything about it if you don't share it or try to profit from it. That's not a legal opinion, though.

WOW! There was a tanker truck/Prius accident on TV. The Prius was under the truck, but the driver only had scratches etc.  That's reassuring

Hi, DR Vixmom!

Ginny... are you still goingt obe anble to make your NYC trip in September after your foot injury?

August 27-September 1 (Labor Day weekend + Wednesday-Friday before).  Yes, we'll be there!  I have made a lot of progress in the past week and should be at least 80% by the end of August.  Probably no long walking tours with Jose, though, and we'll no doubt use more transit than usual.  We'll see...

And, for disclosure's sake, this was elective surgery (just a shade more serious than cosmetic) not an injury.  It was really an investment to keep my foot from looking and feeling in 30 years like my mother's does now.

Had a nice evening of viewing.

I began by finishing up STEP UP 2 THE STREETS' bonus features. There really wasn't much left. 6 music videos that together ran about 22 minutes. A video prank ran 2 minutes, and some Easter eggs I stumbled on ran about 1 1/2 minutes each.

Next I watched another CLOSER episode - the (hopefully) Emmy nominated "Man Hunt" that is so wonderful. It's probably the episode from season 3 that I rewatched the most when I originally recorded it before deleting it from the DVR.

I think it's a very strong episode for Kyra with many different situations to showcase her talents.

Next I watched THE NIGHT THEY RAIDED MINKSY'S. I'd never seen this all the way through, and though it's kind of a mess in construction and execution, there's some good stuff in there, and I did basically like it. Sad to see Bert Lahr so feeble (he died during production).

And I ended my evening by pulling ELAINE STRITCH AT LIBERTY off the shelf and watching it. Well, I only got 2/3 of it watched. There's still about 20 minutes to go. Nice to see it again after not watching it for a couple of years.

Tomorrow I'll be watching that indie film from 2002 SECRETARY which has just been released on DVD from Lionsgate. Yes, it's a review copy. The DVD comes out next Tuesday.
