There are no accidents.
I went to get my hair cut today. I go to a place that is two cities north of me. (Boynton Beach) On the way home I stopped off at a Super Target. And lo and behold I ran into an old friend who I haven't seen in ten years. We first met on a show I co-wrote (Lysistrata: The Musical) and from there we cowrote and I directed his one man show Survivors: A Kurt Weill Songspiel. We caught up we promised not to let another 10 years go by. I pulled out the videos of the shows that we did.
God! Lysistrata needed a lot of work. I wanted to do a lot rewrites during the rehearsal, but because the new scenes were not with Lysistrarta the director nixed it. (The director and the actress were going out at the time.
So many of the jokes that looked good on paper died on the stage. I would have loved to done the show again. But the composer wanted to move on. This was done 15 years ago!! The subject of the story still holds true today.
There really is some good writing in there and some good songs, but if played NYC it would have opened and closed on opening night!
Maybe I will put the better parts up on YouTube. Once I download it to my computer.
