Jacques Torres is actually a block off of Broadway, on Amsterdam and 73rd.  Just a block down from Levain.  ;)

Oh, I see - the "ruin-your-diet" block.

The guys painting the outside windows etc on my house are doing a wonderful job.  The window frames had to be painted white because the upstairs have been done with white metal siding sort of stuff so it would look funny to have any color other than white.  But - the white just shines it's so clean and nice.  And they have dug out all the old crud around the windows and front door and regrouted and sealed them.  That's great.  I can see that it's windy, but I can no longer feel wind coming in around the windows.   YEAH!!!

They are still going to fix a numbe of little things, including a broken window, the cement on my front porch and other little things.  And we are discussing doing indoor painting and finishing the room I demoed in the basement later in the fall when the jobs get a little slimmer.  I am SO happy about this, but it means no trips for me. That money will go into the house this year.  I've decided to spend my holidays working on the house.   It will be great.

I've been watching footage of the Chad Mitchell Trio from 1962-65 on the ed Sullivan Show, the Dinah shore Show, Hootenany, the bell Telephone hour, and some Canadian folk show that let them sing things the american censors wouldn't let them do, like their tribute to Ole Miss and the civil rights riots. I feel 16 again and a bit nostalgic at the moment.

I think I'll watch the first act of the last Glyndebourne production of CARMEN to get back into a chic and sophisticated state of mind.

DR Cillaliz - it's great when you find people you trust to work on your house.

Think I'll go heat up a Dutch almond patty and put a big glob of vanilla ice cream on it.

Here's the description of the Dutch Almond Patty form Casey's Bakery in Sioux Center, IA

Our signature item is our Almond Patties. Buttery puff pastry filled with almond paste and sprinkled with sugar, it is our version of the traditional Dutch Banket. Purchase them already baked or frozen and enjoy "just out of the oven" goodness at home.

Lots to see in tonight's viewing schedule. I began by finishing MY LIFE ON THE D-LIST. Kathy at a Bears convention was wonderful. (Too bad we don't get to see her entire act.) The dogs on the treadmill was so funny and endearing.

Next I watched four episodes of RENO 911. (That makes a total of 9 episodes watched tonight.) Seth Green was very funny as the manager of a fast food joint (we thought until a great twist.)

Then I put in the new Blu-ray of BATMAN BEGINS. Those with HD-DVD who bought the film on that format already have experienced what astounding picture and sound it contains. I was absolutely blown away by the Dolby TrueHD sound. I thought the Dolby Digital sound on the standard DVD was great, but the TrueHD had a way of going up and over my entire room rather than just coming straight at me. It was THE MOST interesting sound design I've ever heard on a film in my viewing area. Amazing. The picture quality was truly stellar.

The Blu-ray features the six minute prologue to THE DARK KNIGHT which opens next week. It's a fabulous introduction of Heath Leger's The Joker, and, of course, makes me greatly anticipate seeing the movie.

I finished the evening beginning the next episode of BURN NOTICE on disc two. It's the episode where we first meet Michael's brother. I only watched about 15 minutes of it, so I'll finish it tomorrow while I cook and eat lunch. I did see this episode when I was getting into the show last summer. Maybe I've caught up with the ones I hadn't seen (which must have just been the pilot).

Just read that the wonderful actress Evelyn Keyes passed away of cancer at an assisted living home in Montecito, California at age 91. She died July 4th.

Back from our run-through.  It went very well - some things to attend to, but overall a really good shakedown.  All the humor worked well, and the pace of the show is really good - it's just energy stuff and taking the stage and making sure our boys are leading the audience at every step.  It was actually amazing they had ANY energy left after the eight hour rehearsal.  More in the notes.

We're not having a rehearsal tomorrow, but we're meeting at Panera for notes.  I think Kevin has pretty much decided that's it's folly not to have me in NY for the three rehearsals and show, so I  think they'll be flying me in.  Does anyone know anyone who might have an empty place I could sublet for three or four nights?
