TOD: 1998 Mac G3 Powerbook, Wall Street Model

I've bought two Mac Laptops since then; a titanum 17" powerbook to edit on, and a new 15" Mac Book for my DH.

First internet group I posted on was the Randy Newman group, a great bunch of folks, but too many flame wars for me!

Yay for Kyra's nomination, as well as Holly Hunter. Glad we'll be able to air the spots we just finished!

I missed out on posting a recipe the other day, but for anyone who wondered what I made for the Dive-In Movie: TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD, it was fresh Georgia shrimp with roasted red pepper grits. (DerB, I was afraid to make the pie---I've never made a pie crust!)

Everyone else made vegetables, so it was the only "meat" dish. I found it on Epicurious, where they gave it 4 forks (95 % approval rating). It was pretty labor intensive, deveining all the shrimp and roasting and peeling the peppers, but it was deelish and everyone was fooled into thinking that I really know how to cook!

I didn't realize that not only was there a theme to the dishes, but there was also a theme to the guests...they were almost all lawyers!

I've been hearing thunder rumbling for awhile, but I know it's miles away.  They must be getting a really big storm over there

Back from a lovelier than lovely visit with Mr. Richard Matheson.  What a very nice man, very humble, and still as sharp as a tack, even though he's been slowed down physically.  We talked of everything - films made from his books, who did them, and then he told me that they are working on a musical version of Somewhere In Time for B'way.  I asked him who the composer was and the only thing he thought he remembered was it was the guy who wrote the music for Little Women - who WAS that?

Music: Jason Howland; Book: Allan Knee; Lyrics: Mindi Dickstein

(According to the Broadway database, that is)

Saturday night there is a free concert version of SIDESHOW here at Morningside college.  Bill Russell, the book writer, graduated from Morningside, so he's coming here to do a free performance.  Think I'll try to go. What can anyone tell me about it - I know the story but don't know much about the musical

bk, the actor that Greg worked with yesterday was Patrick Richwood. He said he and his mom (Pat?) both know you.

When Greg mentioned your name, Patrick said "Bruce Kimmel, the writer?"

The name doesn't sound familiar - maybe if I saw a photograph...

For those who'd like to see Dr. Learly in action, the Penn and Teller episode of Bullshit! is up on youtube.com.  It's in parts two and three.  Here's the link to part two - and part three is next up.

Back in 1988 or so, I was asked to do a rewrite of a film script.  I was asked to do it on a computer in the Bay Cities office.  So, the guy who arranged the deal set me up at this computer with a black and white monitor.  He had two typewritten pages of command keys and macros that I had to follow.  It took me forever to get used to it and sometimes I'd forget to save and the thing would crash and I'd lose everything.  I hated it with a passion (at that time I was still writing everything on my beloved IBM Selectric).  After I finished, we printed the whole thing out - no other font available but the hard to read font on the computer, and it printed on that awful paper where you had to rip the sides off at the perforations.

I then refused to have anything to do with computers until Varese Sarabande.  The first thing they got me was some Word Processing typewriter with a little screen, but that was so lame it wasn't even funny.  Then I inherited a really old Mac from someone in the office - that put me off Macs for years, that ancient old piece of crap.  It would take ten minutes to connect to the Internet and once there, I hadn't a clew as to what to do.  Then I got a Compaq Presario - $799 all in.  That worked pretty okay and I was able to do a few things online, but not many.   I didn't know from newsgroups at all.  Then in 1998 or so I was given Web TV for my birthday.  Well, I became addicted (see my short story, Your Worst Nightmare in How To Write A Dirty Book and Other Stories - what - you don't have it - WHY NOT?).  That was how I discovered the Internet and eBay and the wonderful world of Usenet newsgroups.  I had that all the way until I got my first Toshiba laptop in 2000, which I replaced with a DELL in 2001.  And that did me until I stomped my Dell to death one fine day after I'd had it with the bloody thing.  I then asked the key question on this here site, and I'm sure it's all there in the posts and various notes - I said I was thinking of switching to a Mac and how hard would it be for me to unlearn the PC and get used to the Mac.  Some said it would be difficult and some said it would be easy, depending on how much I'd actually done on the Dell.  Someone specifically asked, "What do you do on the Dell?"  I said, "I know how to go on the Internet, and I know how to open and use a Word document - that is all."  They said get the Mac now.  I did, and I have never looked back - the Mac Powerbook and now MackBook Pro is the best thing ever to happen to computers.

We had the Apple IIe at school, but the first computer that I owned was the Texas Instruments 99/4A.  It had a whopping total 16K of memory!

Bryan & Craig's first computer was a TI 99.  I don't know what numbers followed.  It was designed for children, appropriate since they were 6 & 3 at the time we purchased it.

I must apologize, yesterday my dear friend Tomovoz sent me a lovely photo of DD Magnus on his last morning on earth.  he asked me to post it for him, because he didn't know how to downsize the photo.  I told him that I would, but I failed to do so.

So, at long last, a beuatiful photo of Tom and Colin's much loved Magnus.

TCB, thank you for the beautiful photo of Magnus.  The one you posted earlier was still nice.

How are you?  I've been thinking of you and hope the dreaded MRSA didn't return.

DR Cilla, I didn't know it was possible for your house to look more charming & beautiful than it has.  Apparently I was wrong.

I've finished doing the Hostage songs - thank the Lord.  I remembered almost nothing from act three, so just made it up as I recorded - it's crap, but if they can use it, great.
