Oh the joy at JFK Jet Blue:

BKs flight is now delayed to 5:45 - ETA CA 8:47

And - the scheduled 4:30 JFK-BUR flight has been cancelled.

The passenger area will be a zoo!

-And just what has happened to the past winners of "The Next Food Network Star"?  -Besides Guy Fieri.

It's always interesting how the Food Network starts running a couple of new shows with new hosts at the same time they start the search for the "next one".

http://www.foodnetwork.com/food/show_nf/article/0,2495,FOOD_20096_5840920,00.html  The rest of the contestents. I don't think I watched Season 1, I don't know who the winner was

As for "The Next Food Network Star"....

I've finally caught up on this season over the past few days due to the rebroadcast/repeats, and I have to say that none of the finalists really appeal to me all the much.  And, frankly, I'm surprised that one of them made it past the second week - that contestant has absolutely no "TV-Q" or true, natural charisma to me.  Fake, fake, fake, fake.

I'm cheering for Aaron, but I'm not really sure why.  I agree that none of them really appeal to me either.

I'm heading down now to clean the guest bath, put away the folded laundry, and then get back to viewing. I'll have until 8 p.m. to watch something on DVD, Blu-ray, or HD-DVD. Then, THE WIZARD OF OZ.

I already have LAW & ORDER: CI scheduled to be recorded. I'll watch MAD MEN "live" though OZ doesn't go off until 10:15 so I'll get in on MAD MEN after it startes and catch up during commercials.

DR FJL - I've found that a lot of those snooty and high-end descriptions are provided for people who want that type of "experience".  Otherwise, it's just a very nice hotel stay to others.  So, as long as you and your relatives aren't calling the concierge every five minutes, and asking for the linens to be changed twice a day, you should be fine.

I haven't been to THEhotel, but I've stayed at a lot of places that have descriptions like this when I've gone to meetings in various parts of the country.  I agree with Jose, it's usually just a nice hotel that has amenities available but I don't usually use them.  You're going to Vegas in the summer on a week night. That will be cheap. It's hot as hell there.

BK - If you're still reading this - and not standing in line yelling at the JetBlue people ... ;)

-There are some one-stop flight back to either Long Beach or Burbank this afternoon, so... Just an option or two to look into, ask about.

Also see if Jet Blue will put you on another airline.  I've had good luck with that in the past, but I've never flown Jet Blue, so I don't know if they do that

You're assuming bk will be somewhere he can post notes for tomorrow! If his flight is canceled  - he'll be stuck in NY for the night - and considering his lack of credit cards in hand, he may have to pull a Blanche and rely on the kindness of others for a place to stay.

Ah... That's what I needed...

I just made a few phone calls to some friends and some family.  So much easier and nicer than texting and exchanging IMs/PMs.

Alas, when I went to call my nieces and nephew, they were at a birthday party, and all I was able to hear in that brief 15 second phone call was a bunch of 7-year olds partying - a.k.a. screaming - in the background.

I think bk carries his own cloud with him.

;D

-Well, I guess I'll tune into NY1 to see if there are any news updates regarding a kvetching and kvelling record producer at JFK.

Hello to one and all and all and one.    Does anyone have a powersaw and would be willling to cut off the bright purple cast from my leg?  I've just about had it with this, and there are 3 weeks to go.

This discouragement WILL pass, but that is my mood at the moment.

Oh my gosh i am so tired.

My 2 year old niece stayed over for the first time overnight without her mommy.  She has stayed before with her mom. And I do see her 4 times a week. But we were not sure how she would do.

Well she loved it. And did not cry. In fact she did not want to leave (although she was asking for her mom to come for breakfast by 7am).

She decided she wanted to sleep in my waterbed. Which was fine. She fell asleep by 9:30pm. The problem was i did not sleep well. And it wasn't really because of her (because we did take a nap together this afternoon).

But i sort of dozed off from 10pm-2am. And i was totally awake from 2am till 6am. At 3am i found her on top of me and she asked if we could sleep together under the covers. Then at 3:40am she decided to go sleep in another room (where she usually takes her naps). So i guess maybe i was just worried she would get up and in a daze decide to go down some stairs! But she did not. only thing is she decided to get up at 6am.

She watched (in my bed) hi-5, strawberry shortcake and later curious george. And now she is home!

THEhotel at Mandalay Bay ushers in a new model of understated luxury, affording guests a haven of sophistication and service on par with the best boutique hotels in the world. Its elegantly appointed suites and stylish lobby areas set a tone of confident discretion, while its carefully tailored roster of amenities provide an unparalleled atmosphere for attending to both business and pleasure.

After going to their website, I don't think you need to be concerned.  IMHO, sophisticated is the beautiful Four Season's Hotel next door.

FJL, I only go into the fancy hotels to take photos of their stuff. I could never afford to stay in any of them.

Those big hotels are HUGE and take about a half hour of walking to get from your room to the street. The entire Strip is close to the airport. At Mandalay Bay, the planes will be almost going by your window.

I never stay in the room much anyway, so as long as it has a clean bed and is in a safe location, I'm ok with it.

Jose - This is what it say at Frommers.com.  Is this

http://www.frommers.com/hotels/hotel_more.cfm?destID=13&acc=49992

a real review or a public-relations puff-piece?

"The rather silly nomenclature of this utterly fabulous Vegas accommodation reminds us of our previous consideration regarding the Four Seasons' relationship with Mandalay Bay (located on the top floors but operated as a separate entity) -- it's part of the hotel but not precisely the hotel. In this case, this really is THEhotel, in all senses, not the least of which is that even though we were quite fond of Mandalay Bay prior to the opening of this conjoined twin of a property, we now think of it, if we do at all, rather as the frowzy sister from the sticks who looks tawdry and rumpled next to its sleek Vogue-magazine-editor sibling. (Actually, we still like Mandalay Bay a great deal.) Yes, if Prada were a hotel, it would look something like THEhotel. Certainly, if there are Prada wearers in town, we bet they are going to be staying here."

Maybe if I visited the hotel and not the website with the annoying loud music I would think it is sophisticated. ;D

If it were me, I would base my decision on how close I wanted to be to my family. ;)

I had some fresh corn on the cob from a farmer's market.  I did a little research on the Internet and tried cooking it in the microwave, in the husk.  I must say, it came out pretty well, and removing the silk was mighty easy that way!

They keep teasing us by saying that we have a 50% chance of rain (which out here is pretty high) and then there's no rain.

Mandalay Bay looked nice, even if it isn't on my favorite end of the strip. I have always been interested in staying at The Venetian, but then I have never seen The Hotel.

DRLaura just goes to hotels to take pictures of the carpets and ceilings!   There's a hotel on the far west side of town that has some great carpets.  You will undoubtedly see pics of the various patterns one of these days (hopefully without my cast in the shot).

Good Evening!

Brown rice (short grain) is simmering away on the stove.  Chicken breast chunks are sizzling away in the oven.  Dinner should be ready soon.
