In Arnold's continued absence, for the word SAPIENT, a possible song of the day:

Natalie Wood/Marni Nixon and Rita Moreno/Betty Wand performing "A Boy Like That"

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4oxfOncYiag

(Think of SAPIENT when Natalie/Marni sings "I hear your words and in my head I know they're smart")

[Thanks, MattH, for the extra info.  I had forgotten that Rita Moreno was dubbed as well!]

Does anyone know why they decided to dub Rita Moreno's voice?

-Which is also a reason not to get obsessive about using products like Purel and anti-bacterial soap.  Yes, they help kill the "bad stuff", but they also kill the "good stuff".

I forget which show I was working on at the time, but there seemed to be a higher number of germ-o-phobes in the cast than usual.  Almost everyone had a portable bottle of Purel in their bags, and they had also requested boxes of anti-bacterial Kleenex, and soap for the bathrooms.  Well...

There was one guy in the cast who would always turn down the squirt of Purel whenever it was offered to him.  "I'm keeping my good germs."  Of  course, this ended up causing some concern among some of the cast members. "Well, if you get sick, then end up passing it on to one of us..."  So... Guess who was the only person in the cast not to get sick or call out during the entire run of the show?  ;)

That stuff stinks & makes me sick.  I worked in an office where the manager sprayed the phones with Lysol, all the phones except mine.

Good Morning!

I'm up, I'm up... I opened my eyes around 8:00... Then 9:00... Then 10:30... Hmm... I guess I slept in.  ;)

I didn't get up until 10:30 either, but I assure you that we are on different coasts.

DR JoseSPiano - thanks; I had not heard that about the raw almonds.  I usually buy the dry-roasted ones in bulk.  I'll have to give "raw" a try.

Well, time to set up my new computer.  [Sigh].  Yes, it has come to that.  All it takes is a credit card!  :)

I shall have to adjust to Vista.  And hope that my backup media proves reliable and that I can recover all of my old data files, at least.

I decided not to go "Mac," for the time being.  Not that I didn't want to, but I have too many legacy programs which I don't think are compatible.  But some day!

"Legacy programs"?  Are those akin to DR elmore's VHS collection?

I don't like fruit.

I will eat it, becuase I have to, but I don't really like it.  I drink Cranberry Juice every night, mixed with Diet 7-Up, as my evening cocktail, I eat apples, and I enjoy a blackberry or marionberry pie with whipped cream or ice cream.  I don't like apple pie, but I have learned over the years to eat it, rather than to offend.

We are home after a lovely memorial service for Dr. Ivan Dornon, who was a Methodist missionary at the university student center in Sendai, Japan.  He and some leaders from the church where Richard grew up (and where he and I were married) created a strong partnership between the 2 communities.  One year when the Dornons were to be here on furlough, some of the students asked their sensai if they could come to visit.  That blossomed into a home-stay program in which each March about 40 Japanese college students came to Middetown, stayed in homes for 4 weeks, studied English, and enriched our lives tremendously.  We hosted Kaori in 1990, Mayumi in 1991, and Yukiko in 1992.

When her daughter and my son were about 8 years old, my friend Katie and I arranged for the church to have a Peace Pole, a 4-sided structure that says "May Peace Prevail on Earth" on each surface.  Ours is in 4-languages - English, Hebrew for the Old Testament, Greek for the New Testament, and Japanese to honor the relationship between the church and the student center in Sendai.  At the dedication we sang, "Let There Be Peace on Earth," which we also sang at the end of today's service.  There wasn't a dry eye either time.

Sounds like a lovely service, Ginny.

We have a peace pole also. I think ours is in English, Spanish, Navajo, (and something else I don't know).

DR Jose - I like graham cracker pie crusts, too, and prefer to make my own.  Here's one of my favorite things to do with one and 2 pints of fresh blueberries:

Wash and drain the blueberries and pour into graham cracker crust.

Empty a 10 oz. jar of red currant jelly into a small saucepan and heat, stirring constantly, until thin and clear.

Pour syrup over blueberries and chill the pie.

Serve with a dollop of sour cream (yes, sour cream) on top.

Simple, but elegant and absolutely delicious.

Interesting food factoid: Did you know that In n Out Burgers cheeseburgers (which are very small and not very filling) have more calories and fat grams than their french fries?  True.

Second interesting factoid: Did you know that one apple has about 110 calories, more than I would have thought, whereas one peach has 66 calories.

I gotmy PS3 all updated, and it's running fine. I watched an episode of THE CLOSER (the one with Orson Bean as guest star) to try it out after I did the update.

Those cheeseburgers aren't that small.  They're actually "normal-sized".  However, the fact that they contain more fat than their french fries is not really a surprise.  A slice of cheese will automatically add at least 10 grams of fat to any burger, and I seriously doubt part of In-N-Out's burger appeal is due to the use of lean beef in their burgers.  ;)

*One thing to keep in mind when reading all those calorie charts is the size - in volume or weight - of those servings.  Yes, there is some consistency to fast food menu items, but unless you're carrying around a scale and a measuring cup with you, there's really no way to know that you're getting an exact serving.  Heck, even Mother Nature does not regulate the 'consitency' of the sizes of her fruits and vegetables.  In other words, if you are counting calories, it's always best to err on the side of caution, less.

Fruit:
I have freshly squeezed orange juice every day. I eat a banana each day.

My favourite fruits:
Raspberries
Youngberries
Blackberries
Boysonberries
Strawberries
Blueberries (gently heated and served with vanilla icecream)

I like seedless green grapes set into a lime jelly(Jello I think in North America) made with CHAMPAGNE.

Dark stoned plums (Doris plums) in a portwine (Yes Port wine and not just the flavoured - flavored - jelly-jello) is also worth a try.

Pears in Jello are also very tasty as a desert.
Pears served with perno laced cream used to be a favourite.

Baked Apple with brown sugar and cinnamon.
