I agree with DR JulieC40 about age discrepancies. I find them distracting and feel they degrade the film/show a notch.

DR elmore - First of all, you can get the original movie of "Young Frankenstein" for only $10.00 at Virgin since it always seems to be on sale.

As for copyrights not existing back then, well, that's a given.  I'm just wondering if there are sort of public records in regards to how the writers and the public reacted to and thought of adaptations of one story from one medium to another.  My impression has always been that the writers more or less expected it since any variation on their theme was a way for their work to reach other people.  -Unlike today where a story, show, movie can be shared practically instantly with a click of a mouse.

Sardou liked the operatic version of TOSCA
Maeterlinck thought he wrote the music to Debussy's opera
All of Britten's operas are either based on Public domain material or by authors long dead like Lytton Strachey and Henry James
I don't know if Beaumarchais ever saw Paisiello's BARBER or Mozart's MARRIAGE, but he did write in BARBER OF SEVILLE "If a thing's not worth saying, you sing it."

Pity. You actually sit in a theatre and ponder such things?

OK - I need to take care of some cleaning around here before heading in for the show.  See you at the theatre, DR elmore.

When history is distorted in a film or play and I know the actual time span, it rattles me. Sometimes it's for dramatic purposes and sometimes further idiocy.

jmk, I had seen this story.    The one I have been following is the person who kidnapped his daughter, made all sorts of claims including he is a Rockefeller.  Now one report has compared him to a real life Mr. Riply.

Was anyone else "fooled" by the depictions of our founding fathers in "1776" - I never imagined that they would play so fast and loose with history.

And Angela Lansbury was actally two years older than her son, Laurence Harvey, in THE MANCHURIAN CANDIDATE, a film I love.

Larry - Skip won't see you before the show, but will be around after the show of course.  His musical is at the beginning of the second act, and his "half hour call" (or whatever they call it for the musician) seems to be based on the start of the second act.

It bothers me in movies about the TITANIC if the screenwriters have Margaret "Molly" Tobin Brown arriving on the ship before Cherbourg. . .or if the other characters address her as "Molly."

Jane, have you ever tried NAC? It's really good for getting rid of mucus. 500-600 mg 1-3x/day. Once a day usually does it for me. It's an amino acid, available at health food stores, and inexpensive (under $10).

Do you know about this statement?
" When taking N-acetyl cysteine it is recommended that two to three times as much Vitamin C be taken at the same time. Failure to do so may result in more harm than good from taking this product because of the prolonged presence of the oxidized form of L-Cysteine. Vitamin C also helps keep the glutathione that is produced from the Cysteine in its reduced form so that it can continue acting as an antioxidant."

Maybe one dose won't matter.

Poor Bonnie, she hides under the bed with there is just soft thunder and the pitty-pat of rain drops on the roof; imagine her delight at the crash of lightening bolts and the thunkedy-thunk of hail upon the roof.

Here she is - hiding in Fletcher's nest under the desk:

Nope - he can't hear the racket and doesn't understand the fuss.

He has retrieved his stash of yogurt cups and retreated to the coach to sulk (Bonnie has his spot!)

I think James Cameron was guilty of far worse discrepancies in his Titanic movie than those.

OOPS!

BEFORE

National Parks Service / AP
The Wall Arch in Arches National Park, Utah, a natural structure that became a favorite of photographers over the years, collapsed sometime late Monday or early Tuesday. Here, the formation is seen before it fell.

AFTER
National Parks Service / AP
Paul Henderson, the park's chief of interpretation, said the arch succumbed to the forces of gravity and erosion. "They all let go after a while," he said. The entrada sandstone structure, here after the collapse, was more than 33 feet tall and 71 feet across.

I have not read anything about taking more vitamin C when taking NAC. NAC is an amino acid that naturally occurs in many foods. I generally take one dose of 600 mg daily to help with my sinus problems and have not experienced any side effects. I wonder if the vitamin C recommendation assumed a higher dose.

Yesterday, we watched Attack of the Puppet People.  Don't ask me why.    :)

It was fun, but not quite as campy as Queen of Outer Space.

Glad that the box arrived safely, DR MBARNUM.....I think you will find PROJECT MOONBASE to your liking as well....obviously produced by the same folks who gave us ROCKY JONES and MY LITTLE MARGIE.

I shall look forward to that film...I think I met the lead actress last time I was in Burbank.

Miss Dixie Bell cowers too when there is thunder and lightning.  Usually, I will get down on the floor with her and play with her favorite toys and try to distract her with happy, positive words.  If the storms are really bad, often I give her a small dose of Rescue Remedy as a last resort.  Lately, she likes me to take her to the basement, close the door to the entertainment room where she will rest comfortably for the duration of the storm.

I don't watch movies for a history lesson.

That said, it does bug me when I watch a movie that is supposed to take place in the 1950s, but they are wearing 1960s clothes and hair...or worse, 1970s clothes and hair!
