Great!  The elevators and escalators will be useful, as will places to sit down once in a while.  I haven't needed a wheelchair since the day the pins were removed from my toes.

There are benches in all of the main galleries.  And in the second floor "waiting space", there are large "sectionals" for people to sit on.  However, lately, it seems that people are using them to take mid-day naps.  -They even take their shoes off, and lie back fully on the cushions... Thus preventing anywhere from 5-10 people a place to sit.  :-\

Thank you to all the DRs for the sundried thoughts.

I've just returned for a visit to my Birth Mother.  It was a good day to choose as her younger brother was there.  He is only ten years older than his nephew! It is only the second time we have met.

Lovely man.

I would have been interesting to have my two sets of parents meet. I suspect my Dads would have had no problem. My Adoptive Mum(Mom) had the opportunity and was quite interested and willing but . . . . . .

At least my Mum did get to meet one of my brothers and my half brother and his family.

What exactly is the point of the convention? I know they have to nominate their candidate, but what what other business is going on that they need several days for a convention?

Spending millions of dollars that could be going to the people they claim they want to help

I went to the Sioux City Explorers vs the Sioux Falls Canaries baseball game tonight. It was the playoffs. Unfortunately the Canaries swept us in the series.  It was a beautiful night and I had a great time. It was the first time I've gone to one of these games and I'm looking forward to going to more of them next year.

Prior to going to Barnsdall Park, I killed an hour over at Amoeba.  And in that hour I found a CD that I never would have been aware of if I hadn't just luckily thumbed through a batch of CDs that hadn't been put out yes (sitting on the counter).  And there you have everything that's wrong with buying music over the Internet - no discovery - no just thumbing through CDs and coming upon one you knew nothing about and which is a total surprise.  That's what kids today and the world today have brought us - no sense of discovery.  The album is by someone  I've never heard of called Danilo Perez, a jazz pianist.  The cover was lovely, and as soon as I saw the Claus Ogerman credit it was mine.  Mr. Perez is great, and this album is a spiritual cousin to Bill Evans with Symphony Orchestra.  It's all piano, bass, and drums, with symphony orchestra, and Mr. Ogerman has fashioned most of it from classical tunes, along with two standards, including the oddest Lazy Afternoon you'll ever hear, but one that's so weirdly hypnotic you can't take your ears off it.  That's one of two vocal tracks on the CD - sung by a deep-throated Casandra Wilson.  One is never sure exactly what key she's singing in, because the orchestration is ever-shifting and going really unexpected places.  It may not be to everyone's liking, but it sure is unique.  The other standard is All Of A Sudden My Heart Sings.  The classical tunes are based on themes by Massenet, Rachmaninov, de Falla, Sibelius, etc.  More later.

That's a great album!  -And you should check out some of Danilo Perez's small combo albums too!

And, yes, I'm still up...

I started to organize a bunch of the photos I've taken over the past couple of weeks - my "desktop" was starting to get a bit cluttered.  And I made sure to actually label my edited pics, instead of keeping their original computer generated numerical "names".

bk - I think you may have mentioned this one before, but just in case you haven't...

"Cityscape"

-I've never really been that big a fan of Michael Brecker's playing/style, but this album is pretty cool and kickin'.  And, yes, a big part of that has to do with Claus Ogerman's contribution to the project - along with the rest of the Jazz "all-stars" line-up.  The album is originally from the mid-80s, but was reissued on CD (again) last year.  It's companion-predecessor album is "Gate of Dreams".  -Which I believe, I still have on LP!

And to bring it full circle, so to speak, Claus Ogerman also arranged and conducted "Classical Barbra" which was the focus of the Glenn Gould article the DR singdaw posted the other day.

I've had Cityscape since the day it came out on LP.  I have the original CD pressing.  Gate Of Dreams (Cityscape doesn't quite achieve the heights of Gate Of Dreams) is one of my desert island CDs, and I just got a new import from Japan that is the best pressing of it I've heard).

Tonight, I get paid!  I have automatic deposit, but I've changed it, so I need to make ABSOLUTELY sure that it's all correct.  I had to have a savings account with the credit union where I got my mortgage (which is a different credit union than where my checking account is) and I just set it up to have my mortgage automatically withdrawn from that savings account.  Tonight is when the first automatic deposit of my paycheck goes into that new savings account.  I hope it all works!

Fortunately, the actual mortgage withdrawal doesn't happen until the fourth of the month, so I will have time to transfer money if the deposit doesn't work...but it should. :)
