I didn't buy it when DR Ron Pulliam said to, and of course now it is sold out.  Unless you wanna bid $300.00 on ebay.

Don't worry - in a month or so, after no one can sell it for that price (which no one has), you'll be able to find it for not much more than it originally cost.  We'll see if I end up with an extra, which I may.

I get Dear Abby's column by e-mail everyday.  One of today's questions was this:

Quote
DEAR ABBY: I was taught that a performance receives a standing ovation when it is truly spectacular. When you are especially moved or inspired, you show your appreciation by standing. Abby, every show I go to now receives a standing ovation. I don't always join in. I feel it should mean something, not just be expected at the end of every show.
I'm tired of getting the "evil eye" from people standing around me because I didn't feel an ovation was warranted. Don't get me wrong, I'm still generous with my applause and take into consideration all the aspects of the show. (For example, I wouldn't expect a play featuring 5-year-olds to be held to the same standard as a Broadway show.)

Am I wrong? Should I stand with everyone else, and am I confused about the meaning of standing ovations? Or should I remain seated? -- RELUCTANT IN MADISON, WIS.

DEAR RELUCTANT: If you don't feel a performance merits a standing ovation, stay in your seat. Do not let the reaction of other audience members intimidate you. It's possible they may be related to someone in the show, or even be the producers.

Now, years ago (when the original Dear Abby was writing the column), I remember reading this same question and Abby's answer then was to stand with everyone, but don't clap.

Times change. ;)

I never stand if I feel a show doesn't deserve it, and I feel VERY few shows do.

I have actually sat back down when the star came out to bow when his performance was awful.

Have now finished The Fortune Cookie, a great Previn score, and am now in Neal Hefti heaven listening to How To Murder Your Wife, which will be followed by Duel At Diablo.  It really won't take all that long to get through the set, as most of the scores in this box are the original album presentations, which only run thirty minutes or so.  There's at least one expanded score, The Happy Ending, which takes up two CDs in this set.

Apparently, when the show went into previews, the program stated no intermission, even though there was an intermission.  As of two nights ago, the intermission was gone.

I just heard that Palin is pro-life and anti-gay marriage.

Then I just have to vote for Obama and Biden!

DR MBarnum, are you still voting for Wilkie?

I think he's still waiting for an autographed picture and a chance to interview Wilkie.

Gimmick was good and sounded very good, too.

My favorite song---especially Miss Mazeppa!

There will never be a Mazeppa to equal Miss Faith Dane - thank heaven her performance will live on forever in the film version.

About a half hour ago, I left DR Ginny in the MoMA gift shop, while her DH Richard chose to remain in the sculpture garden reading (and napping).

Was he lying down and taking up 10 seats? ;D

In addition, she is anti-polar bear, so she will never get my vote!

She is my favorite thing in the whole movie. GYPSY was on very late the other night and I stayed up just to hear her.

NEWSFLASH! Obama DOES NOT support gay-marriage!

From his HRC Questionairre

Quote
However, I do not support gay marriage. Marriage has religious and social connotations, and I consider marriage to be between a man and a woman.

Glad your vote hinges on such a key national issue :)

PALIN on the polar bear:

Quote
At the same time, we will work cooperatively with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service to protect the health and viability of polar bear populations. As I have stated previously, such protection is one of my primary objectives.

Toward this end, I will request that the Alaska Department of Fish and Game work with its federal counter-parts in the identification of critical habitat, necessary conservation measures and the development of a recovery plan. I believe that State participation will help ensure a better result for polar bears and for the citizens of Alaska.

I support gay marriage, whether between a man and a woman, two men, or two women.  Gay marriages are the best.  Unfortunately, I didn't have one.

I'll be leaving for the Dena of Pasa in about twenty minutes.  I'll be supping at the El Portal Mexican restaurant, just down the street from the Playhouse, and then I'll pick up my tix, then take a nice walk.

Have a good evening, all. :)

I keep forgetting to mention how reprehensible the radio spots for 9 to 5 are.  It's all Dolly Parton, singing the title song with new lyrics and saying things like "come on down and see me" as if she were IN the show.  It's very calculated and I'd bet some people will not be happy to find she's not there.
