Der Brucer, you are certainly correct in that we are not at war...and I wish the media and others would stop calling it the "War in Iraq." Or worse yet, "The War with Iraq."

I am sure many could find a more appropriate title for why we are in Iraq.

Well, it was an ill-conceived, badly planned, poorly executed, and hopeless attempt to install a popular capitalist democracy in the Middle East.

For an encore we are now toying with interfering in a civil was in Russia's back-yard >:(

I have often wondered that if we in the US had to sacrifice during this Iraq situation the way that Americans had to sacrifice during  WW2...what with rationing of gas, metals, sugar, silk, etc., no new cars, no new houses, the draft and all of that.... how long do you think this conflict would last?

if that old guy from Texaco or wherever logs on - say hello.
I'm going to visit my Father today. I think he is the same age as that fisherman guy.

My Father used to write a "Fishing" column for the local press at one stage.

Not long - but I suspect we would have simply "taken -over", installed a puppet government and planned for a long term occupation.

The simple fact, clearly overlooked, is that it was Saddam's ruthless dictatorship that kept the "peace" in place (as it was the Ottoman Empire that kept things in check before WWI).

Had the telephonic call - it was fine and not as annoying as I thought it would be.  Also, got invited to the Jones's for dinner tomorrow night - really looking forward to that.

Yeah, but try keeping up with them!

Too bad the Game Warden didn't buy the "everything has a predator" line when it came to Laura and crawdads!

The game warden is coming tomorrow, and he won't find any evidence of crawdads here. I'm sure of it.

Cops Use Facebook to Try to Find Mom of Abandoned Newborn[/b]

Quote
British Police are scouring Facebook for clues in the case of a dead baby dumped at a recycling plant, the Sun reported.

The body of a newborn girl was discovered among piles of garbage at a recycling site in Cambridgeshire last week.

Authorities suspect the mother may be a teen who kept her pregnancy secret from family and friends. That’s why detectives in the area are using social networking sites, including Facebook and MySpace, for any leads on potentially pregnant teen girls, according to the Sun.

"While we are still keeping an open mind about where this baby came from and why it was necessary to put her body into the city waste system, we want to get as many young people as possible thinking about whether they know someone who could be this mother in distress,” Detective Inspector Adrian Todd told the Sun.

“It may be that they are aware of a girl unusually putting on weight or behaving out of the ordinary in the way she dressed and behaved.

“Anyone with even the slightest suspicion should not dismiss any thoughts as being not important.”

Oh great - using Facebook to encourage teenage gossip!

Why is it so vital to find the poor mother?

I'm being very lazy right now - but soon I'll be having a lovely meal with the Wechter person, and we'll be working our way through a couple of hours of food and chat.  We're going to the new Studio City location of Jinky's - they have lots of wonderful egg dishes and decent Buffalo wings, so I think I'll do Eggs Benedict and fruit and split some Buffalo wings.

der Brucer

Muffin - 100 calories
Ham (or Canadian bacon) - amount used app. 100 calories
Two eggs - app. 200 calories
Hollandaise - maybe 400 calories with the amount they use

Total for Eggs Benedict - 800 calories.  No prob there.

But, if I want to be really good, I'll just do poached eggs on an English muffin for a total of 400 calories.

How did we go from over four hundred postings yesterday to 167 postings as of seven-thirty NY time?
