Silicone cookware is the rage today.  These egg poachers look nice & can be used individually.

"No need to drag out a special pan when you want to poach eggs. Simply float these silicone "pods" in boiling water and create perfect poached eggs for Eggs Benedict, or to serve on toast. Healthier, too, because it takes just a small amount of oil, butter or cooking spray for eggs to slip out. Heat resistant to 675°. Microwave and dishwasher safe."

How are they getting back and forth (he asks fretfully).

Let's see...

The Weather folks warned that of "certain death" for those remaining on Galveston Island (the sea walls are 17', the expected surge is about 25' with 6-10' waves on top of that).

The Governor has warned those staying that they will NOT be provided with rescue services.

FEMA has asked those remaining to please ink their SSN on their arm so the body can be identified.

Yet, the news channels still find partiers planning to ride out the storm!

I understand not trusting the government - but think, people, think!

Sounds similar to what happened in 1900.

Greetings, gang.

I don't think I've posted today.

Work is work is work is work. For the first time since my meltdown in 1995 I don't like my job. In fact there are days when I hate my job. I've always felt good about the fact that I work at a place that provides a good and needed service for little or no fee and that I'm doing something worthwhile. The way things are working out right now I don't see the inner workings of the organization with such a bright, shiny face. I'm not leaving but I'm strenuously hoping things will get better. We are not doing overtime for the first time in 10 years and the higher ups think that will make us less stressed and happier. They live on a different planet and only come down to visit occasionally. Ugh!!!

On another disappointing note (with a somewhat happy ending), I decided to take my old hard drive back into TekServe, a computer store that does data recovery. I wanted to try and get back the six BBC sound files that I lost when when the computer died in January. I took it in after the computer died but we decided not to spend the money at that time. I've been working on Volume 4 of the CD and (maybe because Anthony's not here) I thought, what the hell, these are important to me and if I get them it will be worth it to me. I took the hard drive in on Sunday. They have a 75-80 percent success rate in retrieving data. Well, I got a phone call today and I'm in the 20-25 percent rate. They couldn't get anything off the drive. The sound clips are lost to the ether of past Internet broadcasts. The somewhat happy ending I alluded to is that I got a full refund of my deposit. They have a money back guarantee and if they can't recover anything you don't pay. So even though they worked from Sunday through today I didn't have to pay anything! Also, I do have the raw sound clips which I sent to Wales in the first place. When I put the CD together I will just include those clips and explain in the notes what happened.

I've also been trying to record Anthony's How to Succeed segment in a different format from Real Player 11. That program has a plug-in which will record video segments from the Internet. The only problem is, if it's not a Flash based video it will only play in Real Player Version 11. If you don't have that program you can't watch the video. All the computers that I use have RP 11 (not Ron Pulliam 11) so we can watch it here or play it for friends that didn't get to see it but it's not universally playable (is that a word?). I've tried the other video capture programs, like Vixy and KeepVid and they don't work. I've tried converting the video to a different format I that's not successful either. I've also tried the plug-in for Firefox 3 but that doesn't work either. If we don't get it in a different format it's not the end of the world but it would be nice to be able to record it in some other format (like mpeg or even QuickTime).

I will not eat poached eggs on a boat.  I will not eat poached eggs with a goat.  I will not eat poached eggs in a hat; I will not eat poached eggs with a cat.

And now, to end on a happier note, tomorrow evening I will be seeing an old college friend. He turned 50 in August but he's celebrating tomorrow. He lives in New York and we keep in touch but two old college friends who I rarely see will also be there. It will be quite nice to put the week behind me with good friends and cake and laughter  :D

DR George, is it complete Japanese WICKED or is it the 39 minute version?

I'm listening to Idina Menzel's I STAND.
Ms. Menzel will be appearing in Pittsburgh in November and I will be seeing her cabaret.

I'm back from having dinner with DR elmore.  It was soooo nice seeing him again not in an Emergency Room.  ;)

*However, if Dr. Green Eyes and Dr. Gun Show were on duty, well... Larry who?.   ;D

I got an envelope from the I.R.S. today, which gave me pause [or paws].

But it turned out to be just a generic informational letter on pensions.   Whew!

FYI -

"Windows Easy Transfer Cable" is anything but.

DR Matthew was absolutely right to be skeptical.    :)

I'm listening to CDs (currently a wonderful Paul Misraki collection), and then I suppose I'll watch a DVD, although I'm feeling a little antsy.
