THE MEAT AND POTATOES NOTES

Well, you've read the notes, the notes had a little meat and a few potatoes, and now it is time for you to post until the cows come home - they, of course, are the meat and they're none too happy about it.

Thursday I'm seeing the new adaptation of To Be or Not to Be (it's like the recent production of 39 Steps ) with the wonderful Jan Maxwell and David Rasche.

On Wednesday the 24th I'm seeing A Tale of Two Cities.

If I recall correctly Dear Elmore is seeing it in the afternoon but I'm seeing it in the evening.

And on Thursday the 25th I'm seein Title of Show. I saw it at the Vineyard and loved it and I'm excited to see it now with the changes.

I also just have to bite the bullet and go to the Imperial and get a ticket for Billy Elliot. I want to see it before 2009 and I will sit in the last row of the balcony.

All My Sons isn't selling well (or as well as they had hoped considering that KH is making her Broadway debut) but it's still not on TDF so I may try to get a half-price ticket for that as well.

I may also try for a rear balcony ticket for Pal Joey which starts performances in November.

The Seagull was on TDF but none of the dates worked for me.

I have no desire to see either David Mamet curse fest, Speed the Plow or American Buffalo. I'm one of the minority that doesn't find him brilliant and sitting through two plus hours of his would be torture for me.

I have to get a ticket for Shrek as well and perhaps I'll get two tickets for White Christmas and surprise Anthony when he gets back from Wisconsin (shhh, don't tell him).

Good morning, all! Yes, DR Ben, next Wednesday afternoon I see A TALE OF TWO CITIES; you have a good memory. Today at noon I have my secnd visit with Laurie, my nutritionist, so I have to put my chart of meals and blood sugar tests together for her before I go.  

I've also got here to work on a medley of numbers from THE STUDENT PRINCE so I need to begin a rough draft of the piece this morning, and yesterday MTI delivered all the scores and band parts for THE MOST HAPPY FELLA.

Matt H had mentioned several weeks ago the Criterion edition of Pasolini's SALO, and now gay opera director David McVicar has staged the Richard Strauss opera SALOME, taken from Oscar Wilde's play, set in WW 2. The DVD publicity says it's inspired by Pasolini's film.

A bit of sun so far today.  And of course we have to go SHOPPING!

Most of my horrible dining experiences are made so because the service is just so damned slow!  Once in a town in Ohio coming back from King's Island, we stopped at Bob Evans and nobody was served food until one hour and fifteen minutes AFTER we were seated.

As for the Topic of the Day...

I've either had no truly awful dining experiences and/or, if I have had one or two (or more), I've blocked it out.

I will say, that it's the bad service that will make it a "bad" dining experience. However, since so many of my friends are waiters and/or waitresses and/or servers - a.k.a. "actors" - I tend to be a bit forgiving when service is slow(er).  And since my parents are both in the food service industry, I also know what can happen in the kitchen to hold up a meal, what is beyond the server's control.

If something truly bad come to mind later on, I'm sure I'll have time to post it between auditions.  ;)

That's probably a good thing.  For Ms. Holmes-Cruise that is.

*I did find it a little "suspect" that The Times did a story on her transition from screen work to stage work a week or two or ago.  Hmm...
