In addition to the films mentioned, there is a film with Hugh Grant and Alan Rickman and Georgina Cates about a theatre group in 1947 Liverpool and a season of their plays. Georgina is fascinated by theatre and is thrown into the production grind and learns all about herself....and others. Very charming period film, with some spot on performances by the cast. Peter Firth and Rita Tushingham are also in the cast.....

The Benjamin Kritzer books have some nice backstage anecdotes.

One of my favorite theatre plays is Moss Hart's Light Up the Sky!

"I know it takes place after the apocalypse, darling, but do all of my clothes have to be so dreary?"

"I had the most amazing dream last night. I came onstage in a beautiful gown and just started talking, saying all of my lines, and all of everybody's lines. I just couldn't stop talking."
"That Freud was a great doctor wasn't he?"

And of course from the film version of KID MILLIONS:

Louie the Lug (warren Hymer) reading the paper: Hey you remember that guy that pretended to be your husband in Atlantic City?

Dot Clark (Ethel Merman): Yea.

...Where they have started constructing two "Tree Huts". Sadly, it looks like they will be larger and more comfortable than a lot of New York City apartments. -And they will also have a great view of not only the Flatiron Building, but of Shake Shack too!

Jrand, I went Mac about five years ago and it was the best change ever. You will be SO happy, and the little macbooks are very nice and not that expensive. You will never look at a PC again without wanting to vomit on the ground.

I watched another episode of THE OFFICE while I was eating lunch. It was a half hour episode (22 minutes), so it was over quickly, and then I watched the deleted scenes, always a treat.

My guess is that one of the reasons Xanadu is closing early is because title of show decided to close the same day as they were. Also, I think both shows are not even doing the piss-poor numbers that are being reported. I think it's much worse than that, with a ton of freebies being given out for every performance.

Then I watched today's review disc: THE FOOT FIST WAY. On the cover of this DVD case, there are rave reviews from The New York Times (Nathan Lee) and Rolling Stone (Peter Travers). What drugs must these two men have been on to have found a frame of this junk funny? It's mostly improved dialog and the lamest nothing story. I really found it such a waste of time.

And it made that awful Mike Myers film THE LOVE GURU that I watched last week seem like SOME LIKE IT HOT in comparison.

Of course there was a commentary track so I had to sit through the movie again (thankfully, it's not long). There were also some deleted scenes and 2 minutes of bloopers.

Next, I watched the GREY'S ANATOMY episode that featured the gay soldiers. It's one of the most moving episodes of season four, and I really enjoyed revisiting it.

Next, I decided I'd start Kenneth Branagh's film of SLEUTH. I only got about 20 minutes in, but it's oppressive: that heavy, sterile set and the droning music. There's no lightness or sense of fun found in the original film (perhaps Harold Pinter writing the script decided to take all of the playfulness out of it.) I'll finish it since I'm curious to see how they pull off the plot tricks, but I can see why this sank without much of a trace.

And I scanned through today's AS THE WORLD TURNS. Yes, Luke was there fairly briefly with Wheatley also in attendance, but it's a set-up for a fund raiser happening later (I guess later this week). Nothing in the previews for tomorrow.

DR JOSE - both times and WIPED out everything except my operating system. I then had to RELOAD everything. The only thing the guy could tell me is that the virus was coming in through Outlook Express and that I didn't have to open or click on anything, it just hooked itself to my system.....he said.

DR ARNOLDBROCKMAN - I couldn't agree with you more about Mr Ernie Kovacs.

Just the other evening I watched one of his films SAIL A CROOKED SHIP, which I had kind of avoided all of these years....and it was actually quite funny. Robert Wagner, Dolores Hart, and Carolyn Jones were terrific.....I was really surprised that Wagner was such a skilled physical comedian....though some of his worked was obviously doubled.....

I also liked Kovacs in NORTH TO ALASKA, BELL BOOK AND CANDLE, IT HAPPENED TO JANE, and STRANGERS WHEN WE MEET.

A completely unique talent.

Didn't know that Dept. Kovacs was going to play the part that Sid Caesar eventually played in ITS A MAD MAD MAD MAD WORLD....with his real life wife Edie Adams playing his movie wife.....Adams did play Caesar's wife in the movie.

I think I might have liked it even more with EEK that with Mr SC, whose comedy I never really "got."
