Anyhoo...

I just checked NYTimes.com to see if there was any sort of correction or modification to the article that I mentioned last night, and, lo and behold, there was/is.  There is no "correction" listed, however, the sentence about "Guys and Dolls" being cancelled has been excised from the article.  Hmm.. ???

I'm up, I'm up - a little earlier than I wanted to be, but such is the way of the wind.  Speaking of wind, can someone PM FJL instructions on how to unsquish his photograph?  And someone tell me what is that little sheet of paper that appears next to the topic title and reply number, right to the left of it.

Bruce:  It's a "message icon" and you can change it to be a number of things.  You must either be quoting someone or in "reply" mode (i.e., writin a non-Quick Reply post) or in "modify" mode -- look at the box above where you would type.  That's where you see all your font options/function options/etc..  Look under "subject line" and you will see the "message icons".

It also works in Quick Reply if you go to Preview.

DR Kerry - Croque-monsieur sans egg.  Croque-madame avec egg.  -Apparently, it's a madame since the egg represents a women's breast.

My question for BK:

Will we ever have the ability to use new avatars that aren't squished?

Evidently, you can only unsquish old, previously downloaded avatars. Anything new you want to use, whether you download them or link to them, are squished.

The avatar I am using is one I have out-aged, and would like to go back to my more current one (which I had never downloaded to the HHW, thus it is not in the cache).

TOD:

I was listening to one of my compilation CD's and heard Tom Jones singing, "It's Not Unusual."  We had won a demo 45 from some Top 40 station (very typical of the mid 60's and lovingly spoofed by the Carpenters on the long cut  from "Yesterdays Once More"-- or whatever it was called-- LP).

The first time I heard, it was so catchy, I knew it would be a hit.  It wasn't even on the charts then but was soon.  "Downtown" by Petula Clark was the same way.  (Well, almost anything by Tony Hatch).

What songs did you hear for the first time that you KNEW would make it?  (Right or wrong---  Everybody participate.

I will admit that I was totally wrong about Herb Alpert becoming popular (but of course, I didn't realize that he was backed by the Mafia).

The first time I heard Elton John's "Benny and the Jets", I knew it was destined for the top of the charts.  In fact, I felt that way about the entire "Goodbye Yellow Brick Road" album.  It remains a favorite.  I found the album in a record shop in Vicenza, Italy, where I was stationed at the AFRTS radio station (armed forces radio and television).  I was in love with the entire album before we got any of the songs from AFRTS to play over the air.  I kept telling a couple of the DJs that the song would be huge and they laughed at me (stick to the news desk, kid!).  I had the last laugh.

Mr. Oz has been in Europe, that place where France is, visiting and doing touristy things.

Oh, yes....France, Europe.

As for "The Railway Children"... I don't think I've ever seen the movie version(s) of it, however, I do remember reading the book in grade school.  And then there was also the "Boxcar Children" series of books.

Wednesday morning greetings!  It's raining here in SW Ohio and would have been a perfect sleep-in morning.  Alas, here I am at work, getting ready to host my second-to-last brownbag lunch.

Quite a few years ago, I worked with a woman who had one of those desktop calendars where you can write appointments on it and she had already started her day-by-day countdown to her retirement.  When I first noticed it, it was at 531...530...529 days!  She had been planning very early and even that far out was already VERY ready to retire! ;)

The Johnny Douglas score to the 1970 "The Railway Children" movie is one of my favorites.

DR FJL et al -

-At the top of this page, click on Profile.

-Then along the left hand side of the page under "Modify Profile" click on "Forum Profile Information".

-Click the "dot" next to "Personalized Picture", then scroll down the list to the right and select "FredPassport" (or the avatar of your choice).  Your "full-size" pic should appear in the preview.

-Then scroll down to the bottom of the page and click on "Change Profile".

There is no need to go to the "Account Related Settings" page.

..I will also be watching Sunday night's DEXTER while I cook and eat lunch today.

Great choice - particularly if the menu is Steak Tartare.

I can't take credit...DR Ben first discovered this option and pointed it out.   :)

That was available on the old board.  Nobody used it, though.

A QUESTION FOR BK:

I recently noticed that there is no link/button to "Today's Notes" (the HHW homepage), like there is/was on the old board.  Would it be possible to add that back?

That's my question/request.

Thanks for your consideration. :)

I LOVE THE RAILWAY CHILDREN. I've seen the BBC version several times and loved it each time. I knew there was an earlier version and that Jenny Agutter was in it, so why didn't I look for a copy, like I usually do??? I put it in my Netflix queue this morning, only to find it listed as "Very Long Wait."  My, our beloved BK's influence must be even greater than I thought; a mention of the flick in the Notes and suddenly everyone wants it.

I love the first book as a child and didn't ralize it had become a series.  I later gave a boxed set of the books toone of my nieces.

Arrgh!  I have a doctors appointment at 1:00 this afternoon and having bloodwork done at the same time.  But I need to fast this entire morning.  And I'm hungry!

Yeah, well, try being a Jew tomorrow if you want to know from fasting.  ;)

So, tomorrow is your "Once A Year Jew-Day"?

I'm having a bad "senstivity" today (since test have proven concusively I don't have allergies!!!).  My right eye is burning and watering.

Thank goodness for my left eye.

I'm having the same problem.  I've been cleaning & got something into my eye.  If you don't have allergies, you sure get sick a lot.

Feel better vibes.
