I'm playing the OBC of The Most Happy Fella.  It carries the specious and unacceptable credit "Remixed by Thomas Z. Shepard, Producer."  How exactly do you "remix" a mono recording?  And who does this guy think he is screwing with other people's work?  And I must say the remastering for CD (done in 1991) sounds like it has a blanket over it and some good mastering engineer could have done wonders with it.  That said, what a cast album, what orchestrations, what performances.  I'm even enjoying Jo Sullivan on this hearing - she sometimes grates on me.

Apparently, 3 people are being interviewed for my job tomorrow.  Glad I'm hosting a midday program here and then getting ready for an off-site presentation on Friday.

Don't you want to eyeball the new YOU?

Usually, positions aren't filled until vacated, but they're hoping that my replacement can start before my last day (Dec. 19).  It's all very weird.

As for The Topic of the Day...

DITTO

;)

*Although... There is one young actress here in NYC who constantly brings in one of the songs from the movie version of Guys & Dolls.  I would have to put that one on my "LLL" ("Lesser Loesser List").  ;)

Jose, not being as well-versed with the show, as you, what is the song from the film that isn't in the original show?

The Green Fields of France
by Eric Bogle (written 1975)

Well, how ya doing, Private William McBride?
Do you mind if I sit here, down by your graveside?
And I'll rest for a while in the warm summer sun,
I've been walking all day, Lord, and I'm nearly done.
I see by your gravestone, you were only nineteen,
When you joined the glorious fallen in 1916.
Well I hope you died quick and I hoped you died clean.
Or Willie McBride, was it slow and obscene?

Did they beat the drum slowly?
Did they sound the fife lowly?
Did the rifles fire o'er ye as they lowered ye down?
Did the bugle sing Last Post and chorus?
Did the pipes play the Fleurs o' the Forest?

And did you leave a wife or a sweetheart behind?
In some faithful heart is your memory enshrined?
And though you died back in 1916,
To that loyal heart, are you always 19?
Or are you a stranger, without even a name,
Forever enshrined behind some glass pane,
In an old photograph, torn, 'n' tattered and stained,
And fading to yellow in a brown leather frame?

Well the sun's shining now on these Green Fields of France.
The warm wind blows gently and the red poppies dance.
The trenches have vanished long under the plough.
No gas and no barbed wire, no guns firing now.
But here in this graveyard it's still No Man's Land,
The countless white crosses in mute witness stand.
To man's blind indifference to his fellow man,
And a whole generation who were butchered and damned.

And I can't help but wonder now Willie McBride,
Do all those who lie here, know why they died?
Did you really believe them when they told you the cause?
Did you really believe that this war would end wars?
The suffering, the sorrow, the glory, the shame,
The killing, the dying, it was all done in vain.
For Willie McBride it all happened again,
And again and again and again and again…

On this day many years ago, I actually slipped on a banana peel.  I laughed so hard at the idea of living a cliche! :D  I may try to experince another cliche/movie/vaudeville bit.

I know!  Let's tie DR Kerry to the railroad tracks!

Oh, no, that's not gonna work.  The railroads have been replaced with interstate trucking, for the most part.  Nevermind.

Aren't we fortunate that Columbia recorded almost the entirety of THE MOST HAPPY FELLA! Imagine if they had only done a record like STREET SCENE (or Capitol's FOLLIES) with so much of the score missing?

Don't forget DREAMGIRLS. :-\

And now for something completely different...

Who knew??  Tony Dow: From 'Leave It to Beaver' to the Louvre!

A bronze abstract sculpture of a figure of a woman holding a shield created by actor Tony Dow. It is titled "Unarmed Warrior."

One of those "actor types" ;) just called me to see if I was available this afternoon to run through two songs with him.  And, since I am available... I guess that means I should start cleaning my room/studio.  ;)

Hello, Fellow Dear Readers. I have been errant and truant. That is all.

DR Laura!  I was hoping you would get online.  When the mail arrived yesterday, it contained the most lovely and thoughtful package to my little Toby from you and yours.  I cannot thank you enough for such a sweet care package.  After a weekend filled with trials, it was a wonderful way to begin a new week.  Please also thank Sandra for me.  I have no doubt that the dinosaur will be come a treasured possession when he reaches the right age, and he already seems to enjoy holding his monkey.

Oh-0h! ::)

So...

It appears that our current subletter snores from time to time...

And it appears that sometimes the snoring can be quit loud and voluminous....

And it appears that sometimes the snoring happens to be the same "frequency" as the vibrate ringer on my iPhone...

-I've missed three calls this morning... and thought I missed a whole slew of others.

::)  :D

Why was your subletter sleeping on top of your dresser with your phone?

Smart man.  Someone had given me the book when it had first come out, and I started reading it a time when I was away from my dog, and I had to put the book down.

But it stars one of America's top ten movie stars, Jennifer Aniston!  How can you resist?
