I guess nobody but DR KERRY was brave enough to check out the song stylings of Janey Fallis.

Is that the little girl singing about Irish Eyes?

Who knows?  I wanted to throttle her the second I laid eyes on her.

What I do object to is the fact that the politically correct powers at WHV have also placed similar apologetic disclaimers in front of two cartoons on the discs, one featuring Bugs Bunny and the other Porky Pig.

Why?

All these wartime cartoons do is ridicule Hitler, Goering and the Nazis.

What studio shmuck thought we should apologize to them or their memory?

What's next?  Putting a disclaimer in front of SCHINDLER'S LIST and THE DIARY OF ANNE FRANK?

 >:(

Do those disclaimers make specific mention that the material contained in the cartoons may be offensive to white supremacists and racists?

*I'm also wondering if it's still some of the trickle down backlash from some of the hoopla over the release of the "Japs" Bugs Bunny cartoons from a couple of years ago.

I don't have this set yet (it's coming, though).  I am wondering if the cartoons may have done stereotypical portrayals of Germans, or if there may have been something stereotypically "ethnic" about the characters that were lampooning the Nazis.

I think they should simply print a disclaimer on the packaging material:  "The product may, inevitably, offend someone because of the attitudes/beliefs of the time in which the movies and shorts subjects were filmed.  Get over it or don't buy it."

That's, essentially, what the disclaimers say.  They even have one in front of a newsreel clip of American soldiers capturing German troops.

That's ridiculous!

Why do we need to apologize for that?

Again, I find those disclaimers to be offensive.

And in their 60's!--there's hope for me yet!

Well, yes.  But they have been together 35 years already.   :)

And hope goes flying out the window...

As for the e-mail I received this morning, this is what I received:

Hi,

I came across your website <http://www.haineshisway.com> doing a Google search on some relevant keywords, and thought you need to see a new technology that can dramatically improve your ranking above Google, Yahoo, and MSN, in as little as 24 hours.

To see a quick 1 minute example of what you can expect from us, click here: http://pltdemoinc.com/onlinedemo.html and fill in your website, a keyword you want, and the search engine you would like to be on top of, then hit VIEW ONLINE DEMO!

2. Good for one full year on our network.
3. Fully operational within 24-48 business hours

If you want to be seen with visual impact, your business needs to take advantage of this service before the major key phrases sell out, they are going fast, and are on a first come first serve basis.

*It was actually flagged as "Junk/Spam", so you might want to check your spam/junk folders.  -I will refrain from posting the list of DR's e-mail addresses that were attached.

**And upon closer inspection of that list of e-mail addresses, it does look like someone might have phished the old site's profiles.  I know that a few of the e-mail addresses are no longer in use.

Well I am sorry, then, DR LAURA - that the ENTIRE performance is not on YouTube....so that you could hear her maim the song "Oh You Beautiful Doll" to a life size Goofy toy.....

DR MBARNUM survived it seems.....and I did.....but it was close.....specially when the big sis started into her Mambo routine.

We have some bad singing at church.

Hey, Kerry -- guess who is going to sing her solo on Sunday that she didn't have time to do last week?

Yesterday, I went to Seattle to see The Drowsy Chaperone at the 5th Avenue Theatre.  I loved it!  It was quite well done AND Georgia Engel played Mrs. Tottendale, as she did in the Broadway production!  She and the rest of the cast were all very good.  I brought my numbered (#581 of 1000), limited (yea, right) edition vinyl cast album, but we saw a matinée and there was no one at the stage door (that I could see down the alley), so I didn't try to get Georgia's (or anyone else's) autograph.  I did buy a baseball cap and the Broadway production souvenir program...they were both half price. ;D   But it was a lot of fun!

And yesterday was the last day of the tour.  The closed last night.  There was a small party between shows, and lots(!) of packing up doing on - which is probably the cast did not "stage door" between shows.

I still love to listen to the Drowsy Chaperone OBC.....and I dread the day when I see the announcement that Footlight Musicals or Civic Theatre is mounting a production of it.

And now for something completely different...

My roommate who has been working in Macao over the past year, has been travelling around the past couple of weeks: Japan, China, Indonesia, etc.  -She finished her contract a few weeks ago, but wanted to take some "vacation" time exploring while she was still on that side of the globe.  Well, she came across "this" during one of her trips.  She didn't have a video camera on her when she saw it, but she did come across a video of it on the web:

As for the Topic of the Day...  I'm not really sure which ones were my "firsts", but these are the ones that stick with me...

TV: "Doing Time On Maple Drive"
"Punky Brewster" ;)
"The Fifth of July" - via PBS's "American Playhouse", thus TV.  I know it's not a gay-themed play, but seeing this a few years before I came out, well...
"An Early Frost"
"Tales of the City"

Books: "The Lord Won't Mind" - and the rest of that trilogy by Gordon Merrick.
"The Front Runner"
"Family Dancing", "The Lost Language of Cranes" - I still prefer David Leavitt's earlier writings.
"The Best Little Boy in the World"
"On Being Gay"
-And stacks of other books that I bought and browsed at Lambda Rising in DC.

Plays: "Quisbies" - The Kennedy Center had a "San Franciso Festival" many years ago.  Theatre Rhinoceros was invited to be a part of the festival, and they presented "Quisbies".  -It also coincided with one of the last displays of the full AIDS Quilt on the Mall in DC.
"Torch Song Trilogy"
"Take Me Out"

Movies: "Making Love" - I never saw the movie until years after it's initial release, but, boy, did the commercials and "buzz" for the movie pique my interest.
"Maurice"
"My Beautiful Laundrette"
"Longtime Companion" - I remember watching this with some friends when it originally came out. Sadly, most of those friends were basically watching their lives on screen.  I still watch this movie every now and then, and I still miss those friends.

*Coincidentally, my "anniversary" is coming up in a few days... 23 years... WOW!

Oh... And I guess I should add "A Death in Venice" - both the original book, and the opera by Benjamin Britten.

I don't know if it's ever been mentioned here, but a book I've been meaning to read since I've first heard of it this summer is MISSISSIPPI SISSY by Kevin Sessums.  It sounds like a real hoot of a book!

Our internet connection was working fine this morning, now it is being very difficult again.  I'm trying to find out if any of our neighbors are having problems as well so we can figure out if it is originating from the DSL server.
