A box from Deep Discount arrived in the mail today.  I opened it, because I knew der B would want to know immediately if any of the goods were damaged.   ;D

The Whovian in me will be sated for a while, at least.  The box contained:

Doctor Who: The Invisible Enemy (story 93) in a two-disc ombibus set with the unsold pilot K-9 and Company: A Girl's Best Friend.

Doctor Who: The Invasion of Time (story 97).

and Doctor Who: The Trial of a Time Lord (the complete 23rd season, stories 144 thru 147).  With guest stars Brian Blessed and Honor Blackman, no less!

All is quite well in my corner of the world.  For the moment.

Does anyone recall the title of a telly movie with I think, Muriel Hemmingway, that was a lesbian runner?

I can recall women running on a track and then sharing an intimate moment.

Yes, but then she ended up with a guy.

Back from the long jog and storage - finding the chart was simple, so that was good.  It's been a crazy morning.  The good news is that one of our backup singer gals' husband is going to sound design the show for free - he's worked with Dionne and Burt so that should be great.  The bad news is that Michael Rupert dropped out - his mother is ill and he's going to visit.  So, I'm looking for a replacement for him.  Also, do any of our NY contingent know how to get hold of Evan Pappas.  Since Tony Roberts doesn't want to sing She Likes Basketball, I need someone to do it and Evan has done the role.  I asked Danny Burstein, but he's going to be out of town - or if anyone has other suggestions, I'm listening.

Jane, I vaguely, vaguely remember the film. I was fairly young when it was on. I remember seeing it on television and hence why I called it a telly movie.

I do remember one of the soaps having a lesbian relationship. I believe it was AMC involving the characters of Bianca and Lena.

The other good news is they finally booked my hotel.  I don't know it at all and it's on the East side - on 42nd St. between Second and First, which means I'll have to figure out what my jog route is going to be.  It's the Tudor Hotel, and from their website it looks very nice - highspeed Internet, widescreen TV, a nice comfy-looking bed and well-appointed and not tiny rooms.  So, I can breathe easy about THAT.

They must have done a good amount of "cutting" to get the film on TV.

Jogging is quite easy on the sidewalks in that part of town since it's quasi-residential, and usually not too crowded on the sidewalks.  You could run by the United Nations, and maybe even stop by and see your personal friend, Stephen Sondheim since you'll be in his 'hood.

*The commute west to the theatre is not exactly direct, so leave plenty of time if you wish to walk, train or bus it.

It's the Tudor Hotel

Where, if you don't pay your bill, or bare a male heir, they behead you.

DR Matt H, how can you forget about “Catcher in the Rye”?  It also left me cold & I would love to forget about it, if only I didn’t hear or read something about it at least several times a year.

Well, that's you. Until Vixter's question, I haven't heard or thought about the book in decades and unlike books I *liked* such as TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD or GREAT EXPECTATIONS (which I read around the same time), there is no movie version to watch to bring plot and characters back into my mind.

Lunch ran very long which made me very unhappy. If I ever needed the afternoon to get work done, it was today. Argh!

While I was at lunch, I got the call from Deep Discount about their sale. As if I didn't know and hadn't already ordered. . . .

Another order tomorrow once BONES leaves the pre-order list. I'll also order the WARNER HOMEFRONT COLLECTION then.

I know that many of you enjoy bad singing -- so many of you watch American Idol.

and saw Dreamgirls!

I only got two STAR TREK episodes watched. The more interesting of the two had Lee Meriwether as a woman whose touch killed. She was elaborately made up for the alien character she played, but she's absolutely beautiful.

Oh... And I guess I should add "A Death in Venice" - both the original book, and the opera by Benjamin Britten.

THE FILM is an absolute work of art!  (IMHO)

I think CATCHER IN THE RYE is a book you have to read at a certain point of your life to completely appreciate.  I was infatuated with it when I first read it in high school.  When I re-read it in my early 20's, I wanted to grab and shake Holden Caulfield by his neck and say, "Hey, kid--you have no idea how good you got it!"

All a matter of taste, my dear Tom. I thought the singing in DREAMGIRLS was fantastic.

LOL Matt.  It was really to incite Ron.  It's just not a style of singing that I enjoy at all! All that emoting!  Laughable.  I still blame Whitney and more so, Mariah, for leading the world down that path.
