The CLOSER team just dropped by. Apparently, they are really pushing to get me to come back and are putting together an editing room at Turner per my specs on exactly what I want for equipment, even though it's not a system that they use anymore. I have always turned down steady work there but they may be making me an offer I can't refuse as far as giving me flexibility to work on my own projects there. We haven't hashed out the details yet but apparently the producers I work with have had this in the works for months, but just told me today. I will still freelance if I want, but it's nice to know that I will have work waiting for me when Mercer is done!

It's a beautiful day but cold. I probably should have worn a heavier jacket though there wasn't much walk from the car to the restaurant.

I spent most of my afternoon watching CHUNGKING EXPRESS, this time on Blu-ray. This is one time when the higher resolution works a bit against the film as some of the scenes have been shot with a gauzy sort of soft focus that then jump right into scenes without the softness, and the sharpness in contrast to the softness is really jolting sometimes.

Anyway, that finishes the first tier of Criterion Blu-rays. I start on another TRANSFORMERS animated set tomorrow.

I did have time left over to speed through today's AS THE WORLD TURNS. Luke, Noah, and Brian were on. I really don't know where this is going, but it should be fun to see things develop.

Good Afternoon!

The bus pulled into Chinatown around 2:20, and then was up at 34th Street for the final drop-off around 2:30.  Not a bad trip, but very interesting in a socio-behavioral manner.  It really is amazing what happens when people claim that they were listening when they clearly were not - and there are others around them to inform them of that truth.  ;)

...And since I happened to have a copy waiting in the mail for me once I got back to my apartment, I'm currently listening to Traincha's first Bacharach Songbook CD, "The Look of Love".  -Which could be seen as sort of a warm-up for tonight's benefit... If I make it there...

Thank you to DRs Tomovoz, Kerry, and Jose for your supportive words.  My sadness is tinged with a little bit of guilt that I had not been very attentive to Mrs. B for the past year or so.  She lived in the same building as my mother-in-law and, after Harriet died, it was difficult to go there.

Had a wonderful lunch today with Mustafa and two of the three army guys he is teaching Arabic to. Both guys (just kids, really) will be heading over to Iraq next spring-ish, but have been in the army for several years now.

Super nice guys...one is going to e-mail me his Myspace page so that I can hear his singing/songwriting...he also writes a lot of fiction (is working on about 6 different book ideas) and speaks a little each of French, German, Spanish, as well as being very well versed in Arabic. Quite a lot in only 26 years of life!

the other guy is mostly into sports and has a young wife and baby and lives on $24,000 a year...how, I do not know! I had no idea these guys were paid so little. Actually, he said that when he was in Montana, that was plenty of dough...but here in Oregon, it is quite a struggle.

I do hope they stay safe while overseas.

I hope it works out that I can do both. After 4 years on The CLOSER, it's been nice to have a break, but I think CLOSER will crank back up in April and I may not be done yet. We'll see...

TNT has lots of new original shows coming up that look really good, so if it doesn't time out right, at least I can go on to another show.

I gave my car an early Xmas present Saturday. I went in for an oil change...and $600 dollars later, baby had new (brake) shoes, a new belt and other automobile attire. Ouch.

The minutes tick away.....the cast of the review must be having a great time rehearsing and getting set for the show.......does each performer do his/her own makeup?  Are the costumes coordinated? 

I can only hope that Mssrs. Kimmel & Cates did a better job with "Things I Will Not Miss" that Mr. Hermes Pan did....his staging of that song (for me) was a low point in a movie that was already pretty low.....
