One of the strangest Christmas Eve's I ever experienced was in Perth, Western Australia.

I was on USS Carl Vinson and we were making a port call during Christmas.  I checked into a nice hotel and spent the afternoon sunbathing on a mostly deserted deck by the rooftop pool.  At some point, there was a bit of excitement from across the pool but I didn't bother myself to investigate.  Then, someone took occupancy of a deck chair near mine.

For the next hour, I was sunning beside Pat Boone who was in town doing a concert.  Circa 1986, as I recall.

16 years ago, I spent Christmas Day on USS Kitty Hawk which was anchored off the coast of Somalia.  One day later, we started sailing toward the Persian Gulf where we remained for about 10 weeks.  We saw quite a bit of action as we were the "platform" for the U.S. launching air strikes against Saddam Hussein for violating the "no-fly" zone...part of his penance for the original Gulf War.

Mem'ries....light the corners of my mind...

Misty water-colored mem'ries, of the way we were...

Happy Christmas Down Under, Tomovoz!

In fact, where the HELL is everyone?  You'd think it was Christmas or something.

I can see it now....I'm going to be having an epiphany in just two days shy of a fortnight.

Now Tale Of Despereaux sounds like typical Hans Zimmer - so they must have temped this film with a whole slew of different composers, and poor Mr. Ross has to emulate them.

Hans Zimmer is one of the worst things EVER to happen to film music, IMO!

I thought of two more books that I should have thought of first:

Murder at the Grove
Once Upon a Time in Hollywood

The days are getting longer, but not by much.

I think I shall watch some of the DVD's that DR ELMORE sent to me.

Have you noticed how the ads for Tale of Despereaux feature no (count 'em) pull quotes?  Not a good sign.

That's unusual, since even total bombs end up using pull quotes from the most amateur online "reviewers".

I resemble that remark.  :)

I mean the print ads, BTW--I think the TV spots do have some ridiculous quote like "family film" or something non-impressive like that from some fourth-tier site.  :)

With the internet very quiet this afternoon, not much to read, so I'll finish writing up that review of BLAISE PASCAL and that set will be done.

Then, I'll head downstairs for some viewing fun.

I'm currently watching the Janice Dickinson Modeling Agency Season 2 christmas special. It was the last episode from season 2 that i had not seen.

It's very odd because one station here showed Season 3 last year. So i watched that. And now another station showed season 2 this year. I forgot some of the stuff i knew from S3 (i had never seen the show or any of the models before).

Hopefully i'll get to see Season 4 and not have to watch it on youtube.

My aunt called to say what she got for Xmas. And i told her how good the 2 dessert were that she made (i could have sworn she said she made them). It turns out she bought them. Oops.

But they were still really great.

For dinner i think i will have some latkes. And then sample the trifle (sp?) dessert my mom made yesterday which i did not get to try because i was so full.

I went to see it a couple of days ago. Great animation....bor-ing story. I walked out after an hour.

DR TinselTown it is difficult to give you the exact date in Middle earth years (I live on the larger West Island).

In Middle Earth proper (New Zealand to some) it is about midday on December 26. In the land of OZ it is just after 9.00am on December 26.
