How many of you have local TV channels that have fully converted to HDTV (meaning even the local news shows are done in HDTV)?

How long will it be before the majority of TV will be 16x9?

When we get HDTV broadcasts on a standard TV will we get the sides chopped off or will it be letterboxed.

I'm watching a motion picture on DVD.  I had three chicken tenders and some lobster salad for lunch.

It wasn't exactly a "shopping spree," but a local store (Music for a Song) is going out of business on Wednesday, and I managed to pick up a ton of dvds there for less than $75.00:
A boxed set of three Paul Newman films (THE HUSTLER, BUTCH CASSIDY, THE VERDICT)
The boxed set of Frank Sinatra/Gene Kelly movies (ANCHORS AWEIGH, ON THE TOWN, TAKE ME OUT TO THE BALLGAME)
THE BOYS IN THE BAND
THE OBLONG BOX/SCREAM AND SCREAM AGAIN
LASSIE, COME HOME
BATTLE HYMN
SUDDENLY LAST SUMMER
THE MIRROR HAS TWO FACES
STRANGE BEDFELLOWS

Haven't perused them yet, I'm still going through the Christmas gift of Season One of PUSHING DAISIES and loving every minute of it.  :)

I think it was very nice of the guy to donate his body to the medical students.

Yes, where would Bryan be without Goyim in the world?

Wonder what an Othodox Rabbi would say about the morality of Jewish medical students working on cadavers?

I don't know, interesting question.  I know plenty of Jews who will donate their organs, none of them are orthodox.  ;D

Back from seeing SLUMDOG MILLIONAIRE. Quite a good film and I was surprised at how emotional I became during the final 15 minutes.

Vixmom, I am quite impressed with your bravery during a very difficult time. Continued good wishes for your healing.

Vibes, too, to Laura's sister's healing.

I am too.  I would not be so brave.

Now I need to finish up the Bollywood comedy I started last night...PERSONAL ASSISTANT (1959).

An amusing Bengali film about a guy who gets a job in a female-only run office.

Of course since the film is Bengali it is not actually a Bollywood movie, but rather a Tollywood movie as the film industry in that part of the country is centered in Tollygunge, Kolkota. Before it was known as Tollywood it was just known as Bengali Film Industry.

Actually... Only because I know someone who had to deal with this situation... He requested and was granted a dispensation before he entered medical school by his Rabbi.

I should have figured that one out.

Miss Allison Hayes attended many birthday parties at the Sportsmen's Lodge as the date of Mr Sy Devore....and was also seen there many times on the arm of her main squeeze, director Bobby Gordon.

Bobby Gordon played Jakie Rabinowitz as a child in THE JAZZ SINGER, so DR DRUXY's post about Mr Davy Lee was interesting to read....

Of course, the Sportsman's Lodge plays a small but important role in the novel Benjamin Kritzer.

It was at the Sportman's Lodge I first knew I wanted to be a vegetarian, long before I ever heard the word vegetarian.   That was when they kept the pond stocked for fishing.  My father took me and we had a great time catching fish, until we went into the kitchen to watch them cut the heads off.  My fish was still alive & I begged them not to do it.  I wanted to put it back in the pond.  They all laughed at me & I watched while the head was chopped off.  Of course my father never took me fishing again.

Aside from that it was a very nice experience & I have had many other memories of the lodge, including our 30th high school reunion.

Still watching the same motion picture on DVD - it's quite long but not nearly as bad as its rep would have you believe.  You know how I can always find some person on the imdb who thinks every movie is a lost masterpiece - not this one - no one likes it at all.  But they stick up for the most incompetent trash ever made because they saw it when they were nine or something.

Happy Sunday.  DP and DD are going to relax and hang out at the house today.  Perhaps play a game or three.  Trying to get the DD to use the dog door.  He's a little afraid about putting his head on the door to push it open, but we're working on it.  Other than that, it's an ordinary Sunday.

Hint: pretend he's a Pushmepullme - you on one end inside ready to push , DP outside ready to pull. Three times usually does the trick.

Today is the first mail since December 24th. I've received some lovely mail and a good laugh from some DRs in the US of A.

I'm listening to a CD (arrived from the UK today) of Chris Barber.  Older DRs may know his version of "Petite Fleur" (1959).

JRand will of course know of him (and the wonderful Ottilie Patterson) from the movie "It's Trad Dad".

Maybe the new owners can open a restaurant just for you "The Tofu Palace".

My flight leaves Columbia at 1:40 p.m., God willing.

I think I would direct God's attention more to the arriving phase.

Although I suspect He is given little heed in the Bay Area.

Your misgivings are unfounded.  The Bay Area is quite the haven for the religious of all ilks.  Of course, starched-collar stick-up-their-butt hardliners will think what they like of the Bay Area, and California in general, but you are not among them!  ;)
