Cold today, but the sun is shining.  No clouds.  That's a nice change from the last few days.

I've been to Fed Ex to drop off the last cartons of work and then to thre bank, the Fed Ex cartons I'm shipping on my own FedEx account are in the car, my carry-on bag is packed and as soon as the laundry dries, I'll be completely ready to leave. Jo got a request from a sick co-worker to come into work today so we said our goodbyes and I said goodbye to Randy on the phone. I hope to leave here around noon, drive to the Miamisburg Fed Ex Center to drop off the cartons I'm shipping to my home, then to Dayton. I have to strop somewhere to fill up the car's gas tank.

I fly from Dayton at 3:15, land in DC around 4:40, wait two hours and fly to LaGuardia. I won't be in the apartment, if all goes well, before 8 pm. It pisses me off to no end that US Air is now discontinuing nonstop flights to Dayton. The whole flight should have taken me 2 hours, not five.

Keep them vibes coming!

Good morning!

It was gray and wet when I woke up and went out to get the newspaper. In the following couple of hours, the clouds have completely left the scene, and it's the most beautiful early spring day (in December) you've ever seen! Wow! I'll be sitting on my side porch waiting for best friend John to pick me up for lunch enjoying the fresh air and sunshine for sure.

DS Betsy watched parts of SOM last night, as she does every time it's broadcast.  My falsetto version of "Climb Ev'ry Mountain" is legend Chez Kauffman.  :)

I, too, am hoping for a ton of late packages to arrive today.  It turns out that the PDX post office couldn't even make it out to the airport to pick up arrivals for almost two weeks, so they're seriously backlogged.  I'm still waiting on THE FILMS OF MICHAEL POWELL, a huge shipment of Brasil CDs from Dusty Groove, and a little troika of jewelry that JR knows about.  :)

Best performances I've seen in films during this year (on DVD and Blu-ray since I didn't go to the movies this year):

Daniel Day-Lewis in THERE WILL BE BLOOD

Josh Brolin and Javier Bardem in NO COUNTRY FOR OLD MEN

Emile Hirsch in INTO THE WILD

Christian Bale and Heath Ledger in THE DARK KNIGHT

Keira Knightley in THE DUCHESS

I need to get to the post office to send packages to my sister and family.  They had planned to come to Iowa for Christmas but changed plans near the last minute, so I told them I'd send them after Christmas... I hope I can get there today....

We had a little customer service brouhaha last night with Game Crazy.  I knew we had an in-store credit due to a foul up with their computer system.  DS Betsy took the boys to buy them last night of Hannukah gifts and when she came back she said the guy had told her the credit had already been used.  I knew I hadn't been in the store since we got the credit, so I called the guy very politely (no, really) and asked him to look up our records and tell me how it had been used.  The guy went OFF on me (I mean, totally losing it, as only an early 20-something can) and then HUNG UP ON ME!  Bad decision.  :)  I called back, asked for his district manager's number, and HE HUNG UP ON ME AGAIN!  So I simply called another store and got the manager's cell number and called him.  I was fuming by the time this was all over--I believe I may have even channeled BK for a brief shining moment.  :)

Good morning, kidz!

Well, Tuna's birthday party was great!!! There were 14 of us cousins there, and about 50 of the facility residents! She was thrilled to see her friend from Winnemucca. And to finally meet Rikki's daughter in law. Tina had been jumping out of her skin for weeks, waiting for this, and she bounced awake at 5 ayem - shpilkes - and had a long, lovely day.

After I got back from rehab, I took her and her friend to dinner at an amazing new place - a Brazilian steak jernt - Kravings - on Ventura Bl, just a few blocks away. Ohmigosh! The prix fixe dinner is $33.95 - including a vast, brilliant salad/appetizer bar. Then the fun begins - the waiters circulate with all manner of grilled meats on long skewers, with huge carving knives - they stop at one's table, tell about the meat/fish/shrimp/whatever, ask if you'd like some, and carve a portion right there. After two or three minutes, another waiter comes by with another type of meat on another skewer. This goes on until you beg them to stop.

I had a bite of spiced ground lamb, leg of lamb, filet mignon, chicken in tequila and lime, beef in a spicy marinade, some other beef chunk, mahi mahi, and a couple of other meats. I don't eat shrimp, but my companions had grilled giant prawns. It just keeps coming!!

The flan is the flannest flan in the world - a real star. They also have a wow of a tiramisu and a pistachio ice cream served with a whole spiced pear. Extensive, gorgeous, eclectic wine list. They also have a lounge with live music and a tapas menu. And the decor is ambience times ten. I will be taking others to dine there, oh, yes I will!!!

Well...

My brother is now driving into New York City from Weehawken.  And, of course, one of the "tubes" of the Lincoln Tunnel is closed right now due to an earlier incident/accident.  Hmm.. :-\

*I would have had time to see that movie.  -Or at least get another hour of so of sleep.  ;)

the plumber arrived promptly at 10:00 as promised.  Wow.   The good news is it looks like they can cut through the wall on in the store room and change the entire shower system without taking out the tile. WOO HOO!!! I am so happy.   He also said he doesn't think it's leaking, just dripping when I take a shower.   He doesn't think the current handles etc are repairable. I didn't think it would be...way too much rust.  So, the price seems reasonable and I am very happy about this!

Whew!   Off to work....oh Boo just dragged a Cat dancer all the way down stairs.  I better play a little before I go.  LATERS

They will get to it next week unless I notice water on the floor in the meantime.  I have a very busy week next week, but I will find time to fit them in.  This is just too good.   Thanks for the vibes!
